Jesus Christ holds the SCEPTER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS as God in flesh

Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever: A SCEPTRE of righteousness is the SCEPTRE of thy kingdom (KJV)

“Scepter” in the New Testament is a translation from the Greek word rhabdos (Strong’s 4464) which could also be translated as rod or staff.

“Scepter” in the Old Testament is a translation from the Greek word shebet (Strong’s 7626), and can also be translated as per above or as “tribe” or “clan”. Other synonymous words for “rod” in the OT is matteh (Strong’s 4294) and choter (Strong’s 2415).

A scepter is a special staff/rod carried by a king or a high official, and in our past it was used as a token of authority and power of the king. Scepters are similar to a shepherd’s rod, except they are much fancier and way more valuable. Christ is told to have a kingdom, and his symbolic scepter is told to be of “righteousness”. Righteousness is doing what is right, just, pure and pleasing to God, and this means that the Lord Jesus will be totally fair and govern his kingdom righteously.

Below we can find some interesting verses where “scepter”, and also “rod” or “staff” are mentioned.

New Testament (KJV)

Aaron’s rod was one of a kind. It was a sign of authority and power:

Heb. 9:4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

Compare the below verse with Jacob’s prophesy in Gen. 49:10, to which the author of Hebrews is referring. It’s interesting that Jacob is said to have been leaning upon the top of his staff when he prophesied about the scepter not leaving Judah until Shiloh comes;“The sceptre shall not depart from Judah—“:

Heb. 11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. 

The disciple John saw an extended version of the vision of the future-coming scepter that both Jacob and Balaam saw much earlier in the OT (see further down below). The book of Revelations mentions a man-child who was to rule the nations with a rod of iron, and there are many more descriptions of Jesus Christ:

Rev. 2:25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.28 And I will give him the morning star.

Rev. 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

Rev. 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

Rev. 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

Old Testament (NKJV) – using the word shebet

Below is Jacob’s prophesy about the last days concerning Judah. Jacob (Israel) was prophesying over each of his twelve sons and he places the scepter in Judah’s hands. Jacob was speaking of the lineage from which the Messiah would come. The scepter, the sign of power and dominion “shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh (rest/peace) comes;  And to Him shall be the obedience of the people”. People were apparently supposed to be obedient to the one holding the scepter or this “Shiloh” who is understood to be the Messiah. The prophesy also suggests that people can trust that the scepter will at least remain in Judah until his arrival. (There is no mention of what will take place after his coming.) From David’s time until the exile, the scepter as always been in Judah. The Roman empire affected the area at the time of the birth of Jesus, and in him both the priesthood and the kingship would be synchronized. Around the time of his death the Jews suggested “We have no king but Caesar” (John 19:15).

We also recognize more descriptions of the son of man (Jesus Christ) from Revelations:

Gen. 49:“Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you.9 Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.11 Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes.12 His eyes are darker than wine, And his teeth whiter than milk.

Balaam gave numerous prophesies about a star that would come out of Jacob who among other things would be brought out of Egypt.

Numbers 24:1 Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go as at other times, to seek to use sorcery, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 2 And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.3 Then he took up his oracle and said:“The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor,The utterance of the man whose eyes are opened,4 The utterance of him who hears the words of God,Who sees the vision of the Almighty,Who falls down, with eyes wide open:5 “How lovely are your tents, O Jacob! Your dwellings, O Israel!6 Like valleys that stretch out, Like gardens by the riverside, Like aloes planted by the Lord,Like cedars beside the waters.7 He shall pour water from his buckets, And his seed shall be in many waters.“His king shall be higher than Agag, And his kingdom shall be exalted.8 “God brings him out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox; He shall consume the nations, his enemies; He shall break their bones And pierce them with his arrows.9 ‘He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?’“Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you.”—17 “I see Him, but not now;I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult. 18 “And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession,While Israel does valiantly.19 Out of Jacob One shall have dominion, And destroy the remains of the city.”

Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a child, I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.

Matt. 2:13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

In the book of Esther we find an interesting story involving a king’s scepter. The queen Esther wanted to speak to the powerful king about an urgent matter and she hoped to find favor in his site so that she could continue to live, despite approaching him without first being asked for. The king chose to do his part, holding out his scepter, and Esther did her part by touching the top of it. This fortunate combination meant that Esther would get life instead of death. In comparison, we may all approach the throne of God without fear, because his son Jesus Christ always has his scepter extended to us. Our job is to repent from our sins to become cleansed and righteous:

Esther 4:11 “All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king, who has not been called, he has but one law: put all to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter, that he may live. Yet I myself have not been called to go in to the king these thirty days.”

Esther 5:2 So it was, when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, that she found favor in his sight, and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther went near and touched the top of the scepter.

Ps. 45 is introduced with this information: “The Glories of the Messiah and His Bride To the Chief Musician. Set to “The Lilies.”A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. A Song of Love”. Psalms/songs in the Bible do not contain any kind of falsehood, but we must be prepared for a certain extent of poetic expressions, comparisons, analogies and metaphors which are not supposed to be understood literally. This particular song seems to be talking about an earthly king, with comparisons with a heavenly king and God himself. V. 45:6 is the source of the famous expression in Heb. 1:8, where God (the Father) is talking to God (the son). Since the long and detailed expression is about God the son in Heb. 1, it is also about God in Ps. 45. We can see references to the Messiah also in Ps. 45 – someone being on the right hand side, a mighty one, being the most fair, riding with righteousness, being anointed with oil, being worshiped, praised, etc. (Read my article about Heb. 1:8 here.):

Ps. 45:1 My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King;
My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.2 You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever.3 Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O MIGHTY ONE,With Your glory and Your majesty.4 And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness; And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things.5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King’s enemies; The peoples fall under You.6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.—11 So the King will greatly desire your beauty; Because He is your Lord, worship Him.—17 I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.

Note Ps. 45:7 about joy “Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of JOY“ NASB, and compare with Hebrews again:

Heb. 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the JOY that was set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God

John 3:29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of thebridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.

Is. 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

“It despises the scepter of my son” according to a prophesy of Ezekiel:

Ez. 21:8 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 9 “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord!’ Say:‘A sword, a sword is sharpened And also polished!10 Sharpened to make a dreadful slaughter, Polished to flash like lightning! Should we then make mirth? It despises the scepter of My son, As it does all wood.—13 “Because it is a testing, And what if the sword despises even the scepter? The scepter shall be no more,”says the Lord God.14 “You therefore, son of man, prophesy, And strike your hands together. The third time let the sword do double damage. It is the sword that slays,The sword that slays the great men, That enters their private chambers.

Old Testament  (NKJV) – using the word matteh

There was a lot of focus on the rod that Moses (and Aaron) used during Exodus. Moses had great use for it when he showed others the power of God, and proved that he himself had been given authority to be the leader of the Israelites on their journey:

Ex. 4:1 Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’”2 So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”He said, “A rod.”3 And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand),5 “that they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”—8 “Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign. 9 And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you shall take water from the river and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land.”

Ex. 7:19 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.

Ex. 14:16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

Num. 20:7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 8 “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.”9 So Moses took the rod from before the Lord as He commanded him.

Each tribe also had rods, but their rods cannot be compared with the rod that Moses possessed:

Num. 17:2“Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses—twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

Jonathan was involved in a dramatic story where he dipped his rod into honey in order to eat from it:

1 Sa 14: 26 And when the people had come into the woods, there was the honey, dripping; but no one put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath. 27 But Jonathan had not heard his father charge the people with the oath; therefore he stretched out the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his countenance brightened. 28 Then one of the people said, “Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food this day.’” And the people were faint.—42 And Saul said, “Cast lots between my son Jonathan and me.” So Jonathan was taken. 43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done.”And Jonathan told him, and said, “I only tasted a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand. So now I must die!”

A psalm by David replete with references to the Messiah Jesus Christ, such as “The Lord said to my Lord”. Jesus Christ is called Lord of Lords and he is a priest forever, just like it says in Heb. 7:21-24. It is out of Zion from where the rod of strength will come. :

Ps. 110:1 The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”2 The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!3 Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.4 The Lord has sworn And will not relent,“You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”5 The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.6 He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries.

Heb. 7:21 (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: “The Lord has sworn And will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek’”),—24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

Old Testament (NKJV) using the word choter 

A rod shall come forth out of the stem of Jesse (king David’s father), and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The Messiah would come from king David’s blood line:

Is. 11:1 There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.

150 things we must DO to get saved, and the myth of salvation by FAITH ALONE

”Ye see then how that BY WORKS a man is JUSTIFIED, and NOT by faith only” – Ja. 2:24

You will sometimes hear that we do not need to do anything at all to be saved apart from just having faith in God, because Jesus did all the rest for us. Some will even tell you that the salvation formula is “Faith + nothing = salvation”.  The Bible, however, tells us that we must show our faith by doing good works – and without serving two masters. There is no salvation unless there is true REPENTANCE, which does not mean “oops!”, but is a total change of heart where you confess your sins, make a complete u-turn and start walking in the light with Jesus. Faith without works is dead. Below are not really 150 different things we must do, but at least 150 verses which describe things we must do. All can be wrapped up in the one commandment “love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself”. 

In order to be saved, the Bible tells you to … (NKJV if nothing else stated):

  1. ABIDE IN JESUS, to get eternal life – 1 John 2:24-25,28
  2. ABIDE IN JESUS, in order to not sin and to know him – 1 John 3:6
  3. ABIDE IN JESUS, so that he will abide in you, and you will not be thrown in the fire – John 15:4-7
  4. ABIDE IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST and do not transgress it, in order to have God – 2 John 1:9
  5. ABSTAIN FROM FLESHLY LUSTS, which war against the soul – 1 Pet 2:11
  6. AGREE WITH YOUR ADVERSARY quickly, lest he delivers you to the judge – Matt. 5:25
  7. ACKNOWLEDGE THE SON, to have the Father – 1 John 2:23
  8. BE A DOER OF THE LAW, to be justified – Rom. 2:13-14
  9. BE A DOER OF THE WORD AND NOT A HEARER ONLY, to not deceive yourself – Ja. 1:22
  10. BE A FAITHFUL SERVANT OF THE LORD, in order to enter into the joy of the Lord and not be cast into the outer darkness – Matt. 25:23,30
  11. BE A HOLY AND UNDEFILED TEMPLE, in order to not be destroyed – 1 Cor. 3:16-17

  19. BE HUMBLE, to get grace – Ja. 4:6
  20. BE LED BY THE SPIRIT, in order to not be under the law – Gal. 5:18
  21. BE OBEDIENT TO GOD, in order to be righteous and a slave to God instead of sin – Rom. 6:16
  22. BE PATIENT AND AVOID THE MARK OF THE BEAST, to keep your name in the book of life – Rev. 16:2, Rev. 13:8-10

  42. DO ALL THINGS WITHOUT COMPLAINING AND DISPUTING, so that you may become blameless and a child of God without fault – Phil. 2:14-15

So there is at least some effort involved in order to be a child of God, and you should not trust those who try to make the cross that you must carry light as a feather. Apart from the above examples there are even more verses which tell us what we cannot afford to do if we want to remain saved. In summary these 150 requirements tell us one thing only:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27)

If we believe in Jesus and truly love him, we also stay close to him and get help by the holy Spirit to overcome sin. God is merciful and will absolutely forgive you upon repentance, even if you are guilty of having disobeyed the entire list of requirements.

Jesus is the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, but was not CREATED but pre-existing

“Only begotten” does not mean “created”

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

”Only begotten” is a translation from the Greek word monogenés (Strong’s 3439) and can hold the meaning of being single of its kind, only one and unique. From 3411/misthōtós ”one-and-only” and 1085/génos ”offspring, stock” – one-and-only; “one of a kind” – literally ”one” (monos), of its “kind” (genos). Jesus is totally unique and the only one of its kind. The KJV translates the word: only begotten (6x), only (2x), only child (1x). (There is also another Greek word that is translated begotten – “gennaō” Strong’s 1080 – see further down below).

Below are the verses where the word monogenés is used (apart from John 3:15-18 above):

Jhn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.—18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son

The last verse is particularly interesting considering the fact that Isaac was NOT Abraham’s only son! Ishmael is the most well-known brothers of Isaac (and actually the very first son and thus literally “first-born”), but Abraham also had six other sons together with his second wife Keturah (Gen. 25:2): Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah. Still, Isaac was considered his “only begotten son”.

Septuaginta has translated Ps. 25:16 by using the Greek word monogenés with the meaning “alone”:

What does it mean to be BORN by God, and that Jesus is BEGOTTEN?

Below we can read God the Father saying to his son “thou art my beloved son”, and we can read Paul referencing to this episode in Acts. 13. “Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee”, is a reference from Ps. 2:7. Naturally Jesus was not “born” (or created) when he was over 30 years old and baptized by John. It’s rather about a divine acknowledgement about Jesus having reached the moment in his life (in his mission on earth) where the Holy Ghost could be seen descending upon him, and where the public in a very tangible way could see that Jesus is the promised Messiah that the scriptures talk about. John the Baptist is also referred to in the scriptures, and he emphasized that Jesus was the promised light.

Luke 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

Acts 13:23 Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.—33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten (1033) thee.

Ps. 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE.8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Hebr. 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten (1080) thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten (prōtotokos Strong’s 4416) into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

Hebr. 5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten (1080) thee.

The word “begotten” in the verses above is a translation from the Greek word gennaō (Strong’s 1080), and is sometimes translated “born”. KJV translates is: begat (49x), be born (39x), bear (2x),gender (2x), bring forth (1x), be delivered (1x), misc (3x). Examples:

Matt. 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born (from tiktō Strong’s 5088) King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.—4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born  (1080). (+ Luke 1:31)

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born (1080) of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.—18 We know that whosoever is born (1080) of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten (1080) of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

“Son” can hold a symbolic meaning, like in Mark 3:17, Luke 3:38 and Gal 3:26, and Jesus was not literally the son of Joseph (Mary’s husband) but rather the son of God (the seed came from God). “God” can refer to either the whole trinity, or one of the persons in the trinity.  Naturally Jesus can be both God and the son of God, and naturally one pile of sand can become three piles of sand. A man can not literally give birth to a son, but a father has at least contributed with his seed and most often the upbringing of the son. Below the word “begat” is a translation from the Hebrew word yalad (Strong’s 3205), and it can hold the meaning to bring up, bear, bring forth, beget, gender, travail, be born, etc:

Prov. 23:22 Hearken unto thy father that BEGAT thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Proverbs 8:24 is using poetic language

Below we can read a proverb, and proverbs often contain poetic expressions. “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way” is a good picture of the strong connection between the Father and Jesus Christ in the trinity. Jesus was “brought forth” (something that took place before the creation according to this poetic text), but it doesn’t say that he was created. We read further that the son was present during the creation, despite the information in Isaiah where we can read that God was alone when he made the heavens and the earth (which naturally is solved by the trinity). The author seems to write from the perspective of the son, and if you find the son you will also find life and will get mercy from the Lord. He continues to say that if someone sins against him (the son) that person risks his soul. If Jesus wouldn’t be God, it would be confusing to read about the son putting so much focus on himself, and about two separate beings who have power over life and death.

Proverbs 8:22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.24 When there were no depths, I was BROUGHT FORTH; when there were no fountains abounding with water.25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

”First-born” does not necessarily mean being the first-born out of all siblings, or the first created being

Col. 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the FIRSTBORN (4416) of every creature:16 For BY HIM were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created BY HIM, and for him:17 And he is BEFORE all things, and by him all things consist.18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn (4416) from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Col. 1:15-17 mentions ”the first-born of every creature”, but note that it does not say first-created. “First-born” is from the Greek word prōtotokos (Strong’s 4416). Apart from “firstborn” it could mean an heir, a begotten one, first in rank or preeminence, and this means that Christ is first in rank above all creation and heir of all things. He is prior to all creation and superior over it because he is the Lord of Lords. Also King David was ”first-born” (despite being the youngest son of his father Jesse), just like Ephraim – despite that he had an older brother (Manasse).

Rev. 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Moreover, the book of Romans suggests that we must all be first-born in order to be conformed to the image of the son

Rom. 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Jer 31:9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Ps. 89:4 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.5 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.8 O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?9 Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.—11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.12 The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.—20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:21 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.—26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.27 Also I will make him MY FIRSTBORN (bĕkowr Strong’s 1060), higher than the kings of the earth.28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

Jesus is the “beginning” of God’s creation according to Rev. 3:14?

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee BEFORE the world was.

Revelation 3:14 reveals that the Greek word arché (Strong’s 746) is translated “beginning” and could also mean “the source/origin of God’s creation”.   This goes together well with the information we have from Colossians 1:16 and John 1:3, where we are told that all things were made by or had their origin in Jesus Christ. Jesus is then the START and CAUSE of all things (the alpha and omega), and only in that sense is he the beginning of God’s creation.

Rev. 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God Col. 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn (4416) of every creature:—18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn (4416) from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

If John meant to emphasize that ”beginning” means ”first created” through the word Arche, then he would also be saying that God the Father has a beginning as per below verses, which of course would not make sense.

Rev. 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, THE BEGINNING and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Rev. 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which PIERCED him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.8 I am Alpha and Omega, the BEGINNING and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.—12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.—.17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. Rev. 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.13 I am Alpha and Omega, the BEGINNING and the end, the first and the last.14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Jesus Kristus: “OMVÄND ER och tro EVANGELIUM!” (Mark. 1:15)

Omvändelse och tro är vad som frälser oss, och om vi verkligen tror och älskar Jesus över allting annat (som vi är ombedda att göra) så lyder vi honom.

1 John 14:15 Om ni älskar mig, håller ni fast vid mina bud

Evangelium kommer från det grekiska ordet euaggelion (Strong’s 2098) som betyder ungefär “goda nyheter”, “glatt budskap”, eller “gospel”. Det handlar alltså om frälsningsbudskapet i Jesus Kristus. Allt det som Gud har gjort för oss genom sin son!

Ordet förekommer 77 gånger i KJV och 58 gånger i SFB.

Människor hade självfallet chans till frälsning även innan Jesus kom till jorden och predikade “omvänd er och tro evangelium”, men det evangelium Jesus kom med handlade om en ny fas i historien och ett helt nytt testamente – eftersom han kom till jorden för att offra sitt blod för oss en gång för alla och därmed gjorde slut på det temporära djuroffersystemet. Joh. 3:14 Och liksom Mose upphöjde ormen i öknen, så måste Människosonen bli upphöjd, 15 för att var och en som tror på honom skall ha evigt liv. 16 Ty så älskade Gud världen att han utgav sin enfödde Son, för att den som tror på honom inte skall gå förlorad utan ha evigt liv. 17 Inte sände Gud sin Son till världen för att döma världen utan för att världen skulle bli frälst genom honom. 18 Den som tror på honom blir inte dömd, men den som inte tror är redan dömd, eftersom han inte tror på Guds enfödde Sons namn. 19 Och detta är domen: ljuset kom till världen och människorna älskade mörkret och inte ljuset, eftersom deras gärningar var onda.

Vi blir inte frälsta genom att bara sitta och tomt TRO på evangelium (som ett slags koncept om Jesus) utan det handlar även om att omvända sig och att utföra gärningar som går ihop med vår tro. Petrus talar om att vi måste lyda evangelium.

1 Pet. 4: 17 Ty tiden är inne för domen, och den börjar med Guds hus. Men om den börjar med oss, vad skall då slutet bli för dem som inte LYDER Guds evangelium? 18 Och om den rättfärdige med knapp nöd blir frälst, vad blir det då av den ogudaktige och syndaren? 19 Därför skall de som efter Guds vilja får lida anförtro sina själar åt sin trofaste Skapare, under det att de GÖR vad som är gott.

Det kommer aldrig vara omodernt att lyda Gud – Den som syndar ska dö

Den som syndar ska dö, MEN Gud förlåter ett sant ångerfullt hjärta!

Man kan bäst dela in de olika frälsningsfaserna i tre tidsepoker.

  1. Tiden mellan Adam och Mose
  2. Tiden mellan Mose och Jesus (Mose lag och det Gamla Testamentet)
  3. Tiden mellan Jesus och idag

I de första tidsepokerna kunde man inte kräva att människorna skulle tro på Jesus Kristus eftersom han inte ens var född som människa under den här tiden och därför inte fanns som begrepp. Däremot fanns han alltjämt hos Gud Fader i treenigheten (Joh. 17:5) och den treeniga Guden skapade himmel och jord. Vi kan alltså se Jesus även i det Gamla Testamentet, men i en annan form eftersom hans namn ännu inte var bekant för människorna som levde under den tiden. I samtliga tidsepoker så handlar frälsningen om att tro (och därmed lyda) skaparen, vilket människorna fått kännedom om på olika sätt:

  1. Genom allt det underbart skapade (Rom. 1:18:20)
  2. Genom samvetet – eller den helige Ande (Rom. 2:12-16)
  3. Genom en känsla av evighet i människornas hjärtan (Pred. 3:11)

Det betyder att även de berömda “djungel-människorna” har förmåga att inse existensen av en skapare, som också har synpunkter på hur de lever sina liv. Däremot är det av största vikt att sprida evangelium så att alla människor kan förstå allt det oerhörda som Jesus gjort för oss, och för att de ska kunna få all kraft, kunna använda sig av andegåvor samt bli människofiskare. Skörden är stor men arbetarna är få, och om människor är öppna för evangelium så finns det också chans att de tar till sig budskapet och vänder om från sina synder. Gud kommer definitivt döma oss på ett rättvist sätt, och han kommer inte automatiskt att straffa människor för att de “valt” att bli födda ute i djungeln utan chans att höra evangelium. Han kommer att döma deras hjärtan och tankar, samt hur de förvaltat sina pund. Inte heller kommer vare sig födda eller ofödda barn att gå förlorade för att de inte “tror på evangelium”. De har inte gjort sig skyldiga till synd.

Förutom att tro på skaparen så handlar det om att leva som skaparen vill (som också samvetet avslöjar), vilket betyder att de måste leva rättfärdigt . Tack vare Guds nåd har alla även chansen att ångra sina synder, bli renade och börja leva rättfärdigt. Under Adams tid så fanns det fler bud att hålla än att hålla sig borta från den förbjudna frukten, för annars hade inte Kain syndat när han dräpte sin bror och inte heller hade människorna i Sodom och Gomorra syndat genom otukt. Under samtliga tidsepoker så har det alltid betraktats som synd att mörda, begå äktenskapsbrott, stjäla, ljuga, inte hedra sina föräldrar samt att inte älska sin nästa som sig själv. Dessa bud har alltid gällt och kommer aldrig att bli omoderna. Gud kommer aldrig någonsin deklarera att dessa bud inte längre gäller, och att vi numera inte riskerar våra själar om vi bryter mot dessa bud. Vi har visserligen chans att bekänna synderna, omvända oss och bli helt renade och förlåtna, men om vi fortsätter att ibland tjäna två herrar så orsakar vi fortfarande andlig separation från Gud. Genom den helige Ande har vi fått all kraft att gå segrande ur varje kamp.

Matt. 19:16 En man kom fram till Jesus och frågade: “Mästare, vad skall jag göra för gott för att få evigt liv?” 17 Jesus sade till honom: “Varför frågar du mig om det goda? En är den Gode, och vill du gå in i livet, så HÅLL BUDEN.” 18 Han frågade honom: “Vilka?” Jesus svarade: “Du skall inte mörda, Du skall inte begå äktenskapsbrott, Du skall inte stjäla, Du skall inte vittna falskt,  19 Hedra din far och mor och Du skall älska din nästa som dig själv.”

Hes. 18:4 Se, varje levande själ tillhör mig, fadern såväl som sonen. De är mina. Den som syndar skall dö. 5 Om en man är rättfärdig och gör det som är rätt och rättfärdigt,— 7 om han inte förtrycker någon utan ger tillbaka den pant han har fått för skuld, om han inte rånar någon utan ger sitt bröd åt den hungrige och klär den nakne, 8 om han inte ockrar eller tar oskälig ränta utan håller sin hand borta från allt som är orätt och fäller rätta domar mellan människor, 9 om han lever efter mina stadgar och håller mina föreskrifter, så att han gör det som är rätt och gott, då är han rättfärdig och skall förvisso få leva, säger Herren, Herren.— . 20 Den som syndar skall dö. En son skall inte bära sin fars missgärning, och en far skall inte bära sin sons missgärning. Den rättfärdiges rättfärdighet skall vara hans egen, och den ogudaktiges ogudaktighet skall vara hans egen.21 Men om den ogudaktige vänder om från alla de synder som han har begått och håller alla mina stadgar och gör det som är rätt och rättfärdigt, då skall han förvisso leva och inte dö. 22 Ingen av de överträdelser han har begått skall då tillräknas honom. Genom den rättfärdighet han har visat skall han få leva. 23 Skulle jag finna någon glädje i den ogudaktiges död? säger Herren, Herren. Nej, jag vill att han vänder om från sin väg och får leva.24 Men när den rättfärdige vänder om från sin rättfärdighet och handlar orätt och gör samma vidriga gärningar som den ogudaktige, skulle han då få leva? Ingen av de rättfärdiga gärningar som han har gjort skall då bli ihågkommen. Genom den trolöshet som han har begått och genom den synd han har gjort skall han dö.25 Ändå säger ni: Herrens väg är inte rätt. Hör då, ni av Israels hus: Är inte min väg rätt? Är det inte era vägar som inte är rätta? 26 När den rättfärdige vänder om från sin rättfärdighet och gör det som är orätt, så dör han på grund av det. Genom det orätta han har gjort skall han dö.27 Men när den ogudaktige vänder om från sin ogudaktighet och gör det som är rätt och rättfärdigt, skall hans liv bli bevarat. 28 Därför att han kom till insikt och vände om från alla de överträdelser han hade gjort, skall han förvisso leva och inte dö. 29 Ändå säger Israels hus: Herrens väg är inte rätt! – Är inte mina vägar rätta, ni av Israels hus? Är det inte era vägar som inte är rätta?30 Därför skall jag döma er, var och en efter hans gärningar, ni av Israels hus, säger Herren,Herren. Vänd om och vänd er bort från alla era överträdelser för att er missgärning inte skall få er på fall. 31 Kasta bort ifrån er alla de överträdelser genom vilka ni har syndat och skaffa er ett nytt hjärta och en ny ande. Ty inte vill ni väl dö, ni av Israels hus? 32 Jag finner ingen glädje i någons död, säger Herren, Herren. Vänd därför om, så får ni leva.

Ovan ändrar inte på att vi är frälsta av NÅD och inte genom att ha förtjänat evigt liv genom att ha levt perfekta liv. Om vi har syndat (vilket vi har) så kan vi inte förtjäna evigt liv ens om vi lever resten av våra liv med massor av goda gärningar. Därför är vi inte frälsta genom gärningarna, och framför allt inte genom att leva efter gärningarna beskrivna i den judiska lagen (som Paulus så ofta påpekat i sina brev). Vad betyder nåd?

Titus 2:11 Ty Guds nåd har uppenbarats till frälsning för alla människor. 12 Den fostrar oss att säga nej till ogudaktighet och världsliga begär och att leva anständigt, rättfärdigt och gudfruktigt i den tid som nu är

Jak. 2:24 Ni ser alltså att en människa erkänns som rättfärdig genom gärningar och INTE bara genom tro.

Exempel på hur ordet evangelium används i det Nya Testamentet

Lukas och Johannes evangelium/böcker innehåller inte ordet “evangelium”. 

Jag tar det viktigaste partiet först, eftersom det handlar om Jesu budskap till sina lärljungar (och oss alla) precis innan han blev upptagen till himlen och satte sig på Gud Faders högra sida. Budskapet innehåller också löften såsom möjligheten att genom Anden hela sjuka och tala i tungor.

Mark. 16:14 Sedan visade han sig för de elva när de låg till bords, och han förebrådde dem deras otro och hårda hjärtan, då de inte hade trott på dem som hade sett honom uppstånden.15 Och han sade till dem: “Gå ut i hela världen och predika evangelium för hela skapelsen. 16 Den som tror och blir döpt skall bli frälst, men den som inte tror skall bli fördömd. 17 Tecken skall följa dem som tror detta. I mitt namn skall de driva ut onda andar. De skall tala med nya tungor. 18 De skall ta ormar i händerna, och om de dricker något dödligt gift skall det inte skada dem. De skall lägga händerna på sjuka, och de skall bli friska.“19 Sedan Herren Jesus hade talat till dem, blev han upptagen till himlen och satte sig på Guds högra sida.

Mark. 1:1 Här börjar evangeliet om Jesus Kristus, Guds Son. 2 Så står det skrivet hos profeten Jesaja: Se, jag sänder min budbärare framför dig, och han skall bereda vägen för dig. 3 En röst ropar i öknen: Bana väg för Herren, gör stigarna raka för honom!—14 Sedan Johannes hade blivit fängslad, kom Jesus till Galileen och predikade Guds evangelium. 15 Han sade: “Tiden är fullbordad och Guds rike är nu här. Omvänd er och tro evangelium!” 16 När han gick längs Galileiska sjön, fick han se Simon och hans bror Andreas kasta ut nät i sjön, för de var fiskare.17 Jesus sade till dem: “Följ mig, så skall jag göra er till människofiskare.”

Mark. 8:34 Och han kallade till sig folket och sina lärjungar och sade till dem: “Om någon vill följa mig, skall han förneka sig själv och ta sitt kors på sig och följa mig. 35 Ty den som vill rädda sitt liv skall mista det, men den som mister sitt liv för min och för evangeliets skull, han skall rädda det.36 Vad hjälper det en människa att hon vinner hela världen men förlorar sin själ? 37 Och vad kan en människa ge i utbyte mot sin själ? 38 Den som skäms för mig och mina ord i detta trolösa och syndiga släkte, för honom skall också Människosonen skämmas, när han kommer i sin Faders härlighet med de heliga änglarna.”

Mark. 10:29 Jesus sade: “Amen säger jag er: Ingen lämnar hus eller bröder eller systrar eller mor eller far eller barn eller åkrar för min och evangeliets skull 30 utan att få hundrafalt igen. Här i världen får de hus, bröder, systrar, mödrar, barn och åkrar, mitt under förföljelser, och i den kommande tidsåldern evigt liv.

Matt. 9:35 Jesus gick omkring i alla städer och byar, och han undervisade i deras synagogor och predikade evangeliet om riket och botade alla slags sjukdomar och krämpor. 36 När han såg folkskarorna, förbarmade han sig över dem, eftersom de var rivna och slagna, som får utan herde. 37 Och han sade till sina lärjungar: “Skörden är stor, men arbetarna är få. 38 Be därför skördens Herre att han sänder ut arbetare till sin skörd.”

Matt. 24:12 Och eftersom laglösheten tilltar, kommer kärleken att svalna hos de flesta. 13 Men den som håller ut intill slutet skall bli frälst. 14 Och detta evangelium om riket skall predikas i hela världen till ett vittnesbörd för alla folk, och sedan skall slutet komma.Apostlagärningarna 8:12 Men när de nu trodde på Filippus som predikade evangelium om Guds rike och Jesu Kristi namn, döptes de, både män och kvinnor

Matt. 26:10 Jesus märkte det och sade till dem: “Varför oroar ni kvinnan? Hon har gjort en god gärning mot mig.11 De fattiga har ni alltid hos er, men mig har ni inte alltid. 12 När hon hällde ut denna olja över min kropp, gjorde hon det inför min begravning. 13 Amen säger jag er: Överallt i hela världen, där detta evangelium predikas, skall man också berätta vad hon gjorde och komma ihåg henne.”

Apg 15:7 Efter en lång överläggning reste sig Petrus och sade till dem: “Bröder, ni vet att Gud för länge sedan bestämde, att hedningarna genom min mun skulle få höra evangeliets ord och komma till tro.8 Och Gud som känner hjärtat, har vittnat för dem genom att ge den helige Ande åt dem likaväl som åt oss. 9 Han gjorde ingen skillnad mellan oss och dem, sedan han genom tron hade renat deras hjärtan. 10 Varför vill ni då fresta Gud och på lärjungarnas axlar lägga ett ok, som varken våra fäder eller vi själva har kunnat bära?

Rom. 1: 9 Gud, som jag tjänar i min ande, när jag förkunnar evangeliet om hans Son, han är vittne till hur jag ständigt nämner er —  15 Därför är det min önskan att få predika evangelium också för er i Rom.16 Jag skäms inte för evangelium. Det är en Guds kraft som frälser var och en som tror, först juden och sedan greken. 17 Rättfärdighet från Gud uppenbaras i evangelium, av tro till tro, som det står skrivet: Den rättfärdige skall leva av tro.18 Guds vrede uppenbaras från himlen över all ogudaktighet och orättfärdighet hos människor som i orättfärdighet undertrycker sanningen. 19 Det man kan veta om Gud är uppenbart bland dem, Gud har ju uppenbarat det för dem. 20 Ända från världens skapelse ses och uppfattas hans osynliga egenskaper, hans eviga makt och gudomliga natur genom de verk som han har skapat. Därför är de utan ursäkt.

Rom. 10:13 Ty var och en som åkallar Herrens namn skall bli frälst. 14 Men hur skulle de kunna åkalla den som de inte har kommit till tro på? Och hur skulle de kunna tro på den som de inte har hört? Och hur skulle de kunna höra, om ingen predikar? 15 Och hur skulle några kunna predika, om de inte blev utsända? Det står skrivet:Hur ljuvliga är inte stegen av dem som förkunnar det goda budskapet.16 Men alla ville inte LYDA evangeliet. Jesaja säger:Herre, vem trodde vår predikan?17 Alltså kommer tron av predikan och predikan i kraft av Kristi ord. 18 Men nu frågar jag: Har de kanske inte hört? Jo, mer än så:Deras röst har gått ut över hela jorden och deras ord till världens ändar. 19 Jag frågar också: Har Israel kanske inte förstått? Först säger Mose:Jag skall väcka er avund mot ett folk som inte är ett folk, mot ett folk utan förstånd skall jag väcka er vrede. 20 Och Jesaja går så långt att han säger: Jag lät mig finnas av dem som inte sökte mig, jag uppenbarade mig för dem som inte frågade efter mig.21 Men om Israel säger han: Hela dagen har jag räckt ut mina händer mot ett olydigt och trotsigt folk.

Rom. 15:16 att jag skall vara Kristi Jesu tjänare bland hedningarna, en som i helig prästtjänst förvaltar Guds evangelium, så att hedningarna blir det offer som Gud tar emot, helgat genom den helige Ande.17 Det är alltså i min tjänst inför Gud som jag kan berömma mig i Kristus Jesus. 18 Jag vågar inte tala om annat än det som Kristus har utfört genom mig för att hedningarna skulle föras till lydnad, genom ord och gärning,19 genom kraften i tecken och under, genom Andens kraft. Så har jag från Jerusalem och runt omkring ända till Illyrien överallt predikat Kristi evangelium. 20 Jag har satt min ära i att inte förkunna evangelium där Kristi namn redan var känt. Jag ville inte bygga på en grund som någon annan hade lagt. 21 Jag handlade som det står skrivet: De som inte har fått budskapet om honom skall se, och de som inte har hört skall förstå. 

1 Kor. 9:12 Om andra har rätt att få del av det som är ert, har inte vi det ännu mer? Men vi har inte utnyttjat denna rättighet utan finner oss i allt för att inte lägga hinder i vägen för Kristi evangelium.13 Vet ni inte att de som tjänstgör i templet äter av det som kommer från templet, och att de som gör tjänst vid altaret får sin del av det som offras på altaret? 14 Så har också Herren befallt att de som predikar evangeliet skall leva av evangeliet. 15 Men jag för min del har inte utnyttjat en sådan förmån. Jag skriver inte detta för att jag skall få någon. Hellre vill jag dö än att någon tar min berömmelse ifrån mig. 16 Ty om jag predikar evangelium har jag inget att berömma mig av, eftersom jag är tvingad till det. Ve mig om jag inte predikar evangelium! 17 Om jag gjorde det frivilligt, hade jag ju lön. Men om jag gör det därför att jag är tvungen, så är jag betrodd med uppgiften som förvaltare.18 Vad har jag då för lön? Jo, att som förkunnare av evangelium få lägga fram det utan kostnad och inte utnyttja den rätt evangeliet ger mig.

2 Kor. 4: 2 Vi har avsagt oss allt hemligt och skamligt och använder inga knep. Vi förfalskar inte Guds ord utan lägger öppet fram sanningen och anbefaller oss själva inför Gud åt varje människas samvete. 3 Är vårt evangelium dolt, så är det dolt för dem som går förlorade. 4 Ty den här tidsålderns gud har förblindat de otroendes sinnen, så att de inte ser ljuset som strålar ut från evangeliet om Kristi härlighet – han som är Guds avbild. 5 Vi predikar inte oss själva, utan Jesus Kristus som Herren, och oss som era tjänare för Jesu skull. 6 Ty Gud som sade: “Ljus skall lysa fram ur mörkret”, han har låtit ljus lysa upp våra hjärtan, för att kunskapen om Guds härlighet, som strålar fram i Kristi ansikte, skall sprida sitt sken.

2 Kor. 11:3 Men jag är rädd för att liksom ormen med sin list bedrog Eva, så skall också era sinnen fördärvas och vändas bort från den uppriktiga och rena troheten mot Kristus. 4 Ty om någon kommer till er och predikar en annan Jesus än den vi har predikat, eller om ni tar emot en främmande ande eller ett främmande evangelium som ni tidigare inte tagit emot, då fördrar ni det bara alltför väl. 5 Jag menar inte att jag på något sätt är underlägsen dessa väldiga apostlar. 6 Även om jag inte är någon vältalare, saknar jag inte kunskap. Den har vi alltid och på alla sätt lagt fram för er.7 Eller var det en synd jag begick, när jag ödmjukade mig för att ni skulle upphöjas och predikade Guds evangelium för er utan ersättning?

 

Gal. 1:6 Jag är förvånad över att ni så hastigt avfaller från honom som har kallat er genom Kristi nåd och vänder er till ett annat evangelium, 7 fast det inte finns något annat. Däremot är det några som skapar förvirring bland er och vill förvränga Kristi evangelium. 8 Men om det än vore vi själva eller en ängel från himlen som predikade evangelium för er i strid med vad vi har predikat, så skall han vara under förbannelse. 9 Det vi redan har sagt säger jag nu än en gång: om någon predikar evangelium för er i strid med vad ni har tagit emot, så skall han vara under förbannelse.10 Är det människor jag nu försöker få på min sida – eller Gud? Eller försöker jag ställa mig in hos människor? Om jag fortfarande ville vara människor till lags, skulle jag inte vara Kristi tjänare.11 Jag vill göra klart för er, bröder, att det evangelium som jag har predikat inte kommer från människor.

Gal. 2:2 Jag for dit på grund av en uppenbarelse och lade fram – enskilt, för de ansedda – det evangelium jag predikar bland hedningarna. Det var väl inte så att jag sprang eller hade sprungit förgäves? — 5 Men inte ens ett ögonblick gav vi vika för dem och underkastade oss. Vi ville att evangeliets sanning skulle bevaras hos er.6 De som ansågs betyda något – hurdana de en gång varit gör ingen skillnad för mig, Gud ser inte till personen – mig ville dessa ansedda inte ålägga något mer. 7 Tvärtom, de insåg att jag hade blivit betrodd med evangelium till de oomskurna liksom Petrus till de omskurna. — 14 Men när jag såg att de inte var på rätt väg och inte följde evangeliets sanning, sade jag till Kefas inför alla: “Om du som är jude lever på hedniskt vis och inte på judiskt, varför tvingar du då hedningarna att leva som judar?”

Ef. 1:13 I honom har också ni, sedan ni hört det sanna budskapet, evangeliet om er frälsning, ja, i honom har också ni, sedan ni kommit till tro, tagit emot den utlovade helige Ande som ett sigill.

Ef. 6:14 Stå alltså fasta, spänn på er sanningen som bälte kring era höfter och kläd er i rättfärdighetens pansar 15 och sätt som skor på era fötter den beredskap som fridens evangelium ger. 16 Tag dessutom trons sköld. Med den kan ni släcka den ondes alla brinnande pilar. 17 Tag emot frälsningens hjälm och Andens svärd som är Guds ord. 18 Gör detta under ständig åkallan och bön och bed alltid i Anden. Vaka därför och håll ut i bön för alla de heliga. 19 Bed också för mig, att ordet ges åt mig när jag öppnar min mun, så att jag frimodigt gör evangeliets hemlighet känd. 20 För dess skull är jag ett sändebud i bojor. Bed att jag predikar det så öppet och fritt som jag bör.

Fil 1:7 Det är inte mer än rätt att jag tänker så om er alla, ty jag har er i mitt hjärta. Jesus was constantly worshiped, and told us to worship and serve only GOD

We are not supposed to translate “proskyneó” differently depending on the PERSON 

The English word “worship” is translated from the Greek word proskyneó (Strong’s 4352). Even if “worship” is the most common translation, it can also hold the meaning of bowing down for someone in order to express profound reverence, and/or perhaps to make supplication before a person with power and authority (like an ancient King) or to make a plea. In the New Testament we can see that this word is used for God, Jesus (who is God) and false gods.

It would be dishonest to translate the word with “worship” whenever it’s about God (the Father), and “to bow down to”, whenever it’s about the son.That would just be evidence of that the translater has made up his mind in advance to manipulate the text to get the desired result. There is no grammatical rule that says that we should translate the word in such a way, so this means that there must be another reason for doing so (namely to prevent the text from saying that Jesus is God and worthy to be worshiped as God).

KJV translates the word to: worship (60 times).

NASB translates the word to: worship (32), worshiped (17), worshipers (1), worshiping (1), worships (1), bow down (1), bow down before (1), bowed down (1), bowed down before (2), bowing before (1), bowing down (1), prostrated himself before (1)

”Proskyneó” is used 55 times in the Jehova’s witnesses English Bible (The New World Translation), but despite that fact that the word is used in reference to Jesus in over 25% of the times, this word is never translated to “worship” in any of those cases! However, if the word is used in relation to the devil, demons and false gods  the word is translated to “worship” (apart from being  used for Jehova).  This is not sound hermeneutics, but clearly an attempt to avoid the undesired result of seeing Jesus being worshiped.

“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve”

When the devil suggested that Jesus should worship him, Jesus replied that “thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve”. This certainly doesn’t sound like Jesus gives room for the possibility to worship also other beings. It rather sounds as though he is saying that God is the only one we should worship because we are to be his servants alone. Satan didn’t respond back to Jesus: “Ok, you say you shall worship the Lord, and that’s fine, but how about worshiping also me? What’s wrong with worshiping (proskyneó) a bunch of different people or beings?“. Jesus already took care of that thought when he explained that it’s the LORD we should worship and serve him only. 

Matt. 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and WORSHIP me.10 

Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

When Jesus says “It is written”, he is referring to the below commandment from God during the time of Moses, where worshiping is in reference to God.

Deut. 6:13 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;15 (For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

In the old testament naturally “worshiping” is used loads of times in relation to God (from Hebrew), with repeated warnings to the Israelites to not worship other gods. “Worshiping” and “serving” are often used together, and whether used together or separately they are strongly connected to GOD.

Ex. 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Deut. 30:17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

Daniel 3:14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?—Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

Acts 7:41 And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.42 Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

We are supposed to worship HIM that made the heaven and earth, and sea. Who is that? God (Yahweh) is naturally said to have done all that (and no one was with him) and Jesus as well. The only way to make sense of this is to accept the clear Biblical teaching that Jesus is God.

Rev. 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and WORSHIP HIM THAT MADE HEAVEN, AND EARTH, and the sea, and the fountains of waters

Hebr. 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

Col. 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created BY HIM, and for him:17 And he is BEFORE ALL THINGS, and by him all things consist.18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell

Anti-Trinitarian might suggest that Jesus wouldn’t be worshiping a God if he is God himself, but this means they have not understood the classical trinity. Jesus was also man like us, and as man he communicated with his Father (part of the same trinity) through prayers and worship. John. 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee BEFORE the world was.— 24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me BEFORE the foundation of the world.

To worship other human beings – or other beings/things – is to break the first commandment

Acts  7:43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

Rev. 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

Rev. 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

Rev. 19: 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. 

Bible verses where we can see Jesus being worshiped

Jesus had all chances in the world to correct at least one of the multiple people who worshiped him in the NT (taking glory away from God?), but he never once stopped anyone from doing so. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to teach confused Bible readers that they are wrong for believing Jesus is God even though his own Father calls him God in Hebr. 1:8? He could easily have said to someone: “Hey, worship GOD instead of me. It’s better that you focus on the Creator when it comes to worshiping, or else people might start believing that I’m God too and just as powerful”. Maybe we can so often read about Jesus being God and being worshiped, precisely because he is God and part of the trinity? If we consider the fact that Jesus was a man who taught us that we should worship and serve God alone, he lets himself be worshiped an awful lot! Just read the verses further down below. Was Jesus a blasphemer and a liar when he spoke to the devil in the desert, or is Jesus in fact GOD? I believe the latter.

The wise men worshiped Jesus, which was a smart thing to do because this child was to be called “Mighty God” among other glorious names. A little child would not be able to realize that someone is bowing down to show him honor, but if he is a deity, it would make sense to worship him regardless of his age.

Matt. 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. —7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.—.11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

Isa. 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Isa. 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Immanuel = God with us)

Matt. 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Hebr. 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Rev. 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.—13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

Rev. 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

Other verses where the same Greek word is translated with “worship” 

The Samarian woman and Jesus are discussing the proper place to worship, so apparently proskyneó is normally viewed as “worshiping God” rather than just bowing down to honor someone. Jesus mentions that the Samarians are worshiping what they don’t know – which would be an odd thing to say if the Samarians normally bowed down and honored people they don’t know. It is possible, however, for heathens to worship a Creator that they really don’t know. Jesus also emphasizes the importance of worshiping (the Father) in spirit and in truth, which would also be an unusual thing to say if proskyneó concerns bowing down and honor mere mortal men.

John 4:19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Surely the goal with feasts isn’t to bow down to people and honor them?

Acts 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship ( + Acts 24:11)

John 12:20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

Rev. 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

1 Cor. 14:24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

Hebr. 11: 21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

Matt. 18:25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. (A parable where the King is a picture of God the Father).

Rev. 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Rev. 7: 9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,—14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.—17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

The reason given for worshiping him on the throne is due to him being the Creator of all things. We have already established that Jesus (as well as his Father) fits this description. Who is further living for ever and ever? Jesus is said to live for ever and ever. Compare:

Rev. 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM HE he, ye shall die in your sins.25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

The apostle Peter and the Angel who spoke with John, refused to be worshiped

If someone would fall down before our feet and and start worshiping us, the normal thing to do would be to worship 3ask the person to please rise up immediately – unless we’re God…That’s exactly what the apostle Peter and the Angel in Revelations did. As a reason Peter said “stand up, I myself also am a man”, and the Angel said “See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant,—WORSHIP GOD”. So it’s not enough to be a disciple of Jesus, an apostle, a righteous servant or a prophet, because it would be wrong to be “worshiped” anyway. We should worship GOD, says the Angel Gabriel.

Acts 10:25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.26 But Peter took him up, saying, STAND UP; I MYSELF ALSO AM A MAN.

Rev. 22:8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: WORSHIP GOD.

Rev. 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See THOU DO IT NOT: I AM THY FELLOWSERVANT, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

If it’s not a big deal to be “worshiped” (someone bowing down to them to give honor), Jesus, Peter and the Angel Gabriel were not aware of it.

Hebr. 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Also the Watchtower (the JW:s newspaper) acknowledged in a very early newspaper number that Jesus was being worshiped, even if they incorrectly suggested he is only one God among many.

”The fact that our Lord received worship is claimed by some to be an evidence that while on earth he was God the Father disguised in a body of flesh and not really a man. Was he really worshiped, or is the translation faulty? Yes we believe our Lord Jesus while on earth was really worshiped, and properly so. While he was not the God, Jehovah, he was a God. The word ‘God’ signifies a ‘mighty one,’ and our Lord was indeed a mighty one. So it is stated in the first two verses of the gospel of John. It was proper for our Lord to receive worship in view of his having been the only begotten of the Father. . .” (The Watchtower, July 15, 1898, p. 216.)

The below verse (1 Chron. 29:20) is sometimes used by Jehovah’s Witnesses to minimize the importance of Jesus being worshiped throughout the New Testament, despite that he informed the devil that we should worship GOD and serve him only.

1 Chron 29:20 And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the Lord your God. And all the congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the Lord, and the king.21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings unto the Lord, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:22 And did eat and drink before the Lord on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the Lord to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.

Obviously King David was of the opinion that it would be wrong to break the first commandment by placing other human beings on par with God – much less himself. However, nothing is wrong with a congregation that worships the LORD (not David), and that also takes the chance to show appreciation and honor also king David. The case could be that it’s about divine worship of the Lord and civil homage for the King. There was no rule that they had to separate their actions by first allotting some time to worship God, and then in union cease worshiping God and proceed to the next step on their agenda – which would be honoring their king. It’s possible to do both at the same time.

Jesus – vår store Helare och Läkare 

Men hur ska man tolka dessa verser?:

Mark 6:3 Är det inte snickaren, Marias son och bror till Jakob och Joses och Judas och Simon? Bor inte hans systrar här hos oss?” Och de tog anstöt av honom. 4 Men Jesus sade till dem: “En profet föraktas alltid i sin hemstad, bland sina släktingar och i sin egen familj.”5 Och han kunde inte göra någon kraftgärning där. Bara några få sjuka botade han genom att lägga händerna på dem. 6 Och han förundrade sig över deras otro.

Det skulle förstås kunna tolkas som om Jesus saknade kapacitet att hela alla människor hela tiden, men jag tror snarare att bristen på helade människor i hans hemstad har att göra med att de helt enkelt saknade tro på Jesu förmåga och därför inte närmade sig Jesus så att han skulle kunna lägga sina händer på dem och hela dem. De saknade förmodligen även tro på att Jesus skulle kunna hela deras familjemedlemmar och släktingar, så därför såg de heller ingen idé att göra sig besväret att ta med sig sjuka människor till honom. Ett hinder i vägen för deras otro skulle kunna vara att de ansåg att Jesus var en vanlig person (snickarns’ son) precis som de själva, så varför skulle en medel-Svensson som Jesus besitta en sådan mirakulös förmåga? I andra verser så kan vi läsa att Jesus helade “alla”, men det handlade förmodligen om de som faktiskt kom till Jesus för den sakens skull.

Jesus visade att mirakel och helande har en förmåga att få människor att tro på att han även skulle kunna hela dem själva samt att det Jesus predikade förmodligen var gudomligt eftersom han kunde visa så stora tecken. Människors intresse för hans budskap blev alltså större. Ju fler som helades desto större tilltro hade människorna till Jesus och att han inte var en bluffmakare utan att han var den han påstod sig vara. Att göra människor friska, och att kasta ut demoner ur dem är någonting gott, och visar på stor makt. Jesus menade sig vara den utlovade Messias, och hans gudomliga kraft gav honom stöd. Ryktet om Jesus spred sig, och människorna samlades kring Jesus för att höra ännu mer av vad han hade att predika.

Lukas 4:17 och man räckte honom profeten Jesajas bokrulle. När han öppnade den, fann han det ställe där det står skrivet:18 Herrens Ande är över mig, ty han har smort mig till att predika glädjens budskap för de fattiga.Han har sänt mig för att ropa ut frihet för de fångna och syn för de blinda, för att ge de betryckta frihet —21 Då började han tala till dem: “I dag har detta skriftställe gått i uppfyllelse inför er som lyssnar.”

Mattheus 12:15 När Jesus fick veta det, drog han sig undan. Många följde honom, och han botade dem alla.

Mattheus 9:35 Jesus gick omkring i alla städer och byar, och han undervisade i deras synagogor och predikade evangeliet om riket och botade alla slags sjukdomar och krämpor.

Lukas 4:23 Jesus vandrade omkring i hela Galileen och undervisade i deras synagogor och predikade evangeliet om riket och botade alla slags sjukdomar och krämpor bland folket. 24 Ryktet om honom gick ut över hela Syrien, och man förde till honom alla som led av olika slags sjukdomar och plågor, besatta, månadssjuka och lama, och han botade dem.

Lukas 5:15 Men ryktet om Jesus spreds ännu mer, och stora skaror samlades för att lyssna på honom och bli botade från sina sjukdomar.

Jesus var tydlig med att TRO är en viktig ingrediens vad gäller helande 

Jesus var givetvis mycket effektiv när det handlar om att hela människor eftersom han fått all makt som människoson att utföra Faderns gärningar, och han saknade inte någon tro på att människor skulle kunna bli helade genom den makten. Förutom sin egen tro och makt så verkar det som andra människors tro också kan spela en stor roll för ett lyckat helande. Dock inte alltid eftersom exempelvis Jesus vän Lasarus blev helad trots att han var död och inte hade möjlighet att ha någon tro på något helande.

Vi förväntas inte att tro att någon är Messias bara för att han hävdar det, men Jesus visade att hans liv och förehavanden var profeterade om i skrifterna långt innan han föddes. Dessutom så visade han sin gudomlighet genom de helanden och mirakel som han utförde, och han förväntar sig att vi ska tro på honom av dessa skäl. Givetvis visar Jesus även god frukt, till skillnad från exempelvis trollkarlar som visar dålig frukt.

Joh. 10:37 Om jag inte gör min Faders gärningar, så tro mig inte. 38 Men om jag gör dem, så tro på gärningarna, om ni inte kan tro på mig. Då skall ni inse och förstå att Fadern är i mig och jag i Fadern.”

Mattheus 11:21 “Ve dig, Korasin! Ve dig, Betsaida! Ty om de kraftgärningar som har utförts hos er hade blivit gjorda i Tyrus och Sidon, skulle de för länge sedan ha omvänt sig i säck och aska. 22 Jag säger er: För Tyrus och Sidon skall det på domens dag bli lindrigare än för er. 

Mattheus 17:14 När de sedan kom till folket, gick en man fram till Jesus, föll på knä för honom 15 och sade: “Herre, förbarma dig över min son! Han är månadssjuk och plågas svårt. Ofta faller han i elden och ofta i vattnet. 16 Jag förde honom till dina lärjungar, men de kunde inte bota honom.” 17 Jesus svarade: “Du fördärvade släkte som inte vill tro! Hur länge skall jag vara hos er? Hur länge skall jag stå ut med er? För honom till mig!” 18 Och Jesus talade strängt till den onde anden, och den for ut ur honom. Från det ögonblicket var pojken botad.19 Då lärjungarna hade blivit ensamma med Jesus, gick de fram och frågade: “Varför kunde inte vi driva ut honom?” 20 Han svarade: “Därför att ni har så lite tro. Amen säger jag er: Om ni har tro, bara som ett senapskorn, skall ni säga till detta berg: Flytta dig dit bort, och det kommer att flytta sig. Ingenting skall vara omöjligt för er.”

Bibliska exempel där TRO spelar stor roll för att bli helad

Det verkar som en stark tro är ett vinnande koncept för att bli helad- antingen hos den som blir helad, eller hos den som helar eller helst båda. Det är visserligen inte alls uteslutet att man kan bli helad utan någon som helst tro men Bibeln visar helt enkelt att det är en enorm fördel om man har en tro på att Gud kan göra under. Vidare så kan en människa inte fortsätta att bli helad igen och igen i all evighet trots en enormt stor tro på att Gud kan hela och göra under, för då skulle den personen aldrig någonsin dö utan ständigt bli helad från alla ålderskrämpor. Därför borde vi aldrig döma en person som får förbön men inte blir helad genom att automatiskt anta att han/hon saknar tro, för vi har inte hela bilden. Här nedan finns hur som helst exempel på vad en TRO kan göra.

Lukas 5:17 En dag när Jesus undervisade folket, satt där fariseer och laglärare som hade kommit från alla byar i Galileen och Judeen och från Jerusalem. Och han hade Herrens kraft att bota. 18 Då kom några män som bar en lam man på en bår. De försökte komma in med honom och lägga ner honom framför Jesus. 19 Men när de för folkmassans skull inte fann någon möjlighet att ta sig in med honom, gick de upp på taket och firade ner mannen på båren mellan takstenarna, mitt framför Jesus. 20 Jesus såg deras tro och sade: “Min vän, du har fått förlåtelse för dina synder.-—24 Men ni skall veta att Människosonen har makt här på jorden att förlåta synder.” Sedan sade han till den lame: “Till dig säger jag: Stig upp, ta din bår och gå hem!” 25 Genast reste han sig i allas åsyn, tog bädden som han legat på och gick hem, under det att han prisade Gud. 26 Alla blev utom sig av häpnad och prisade Gud, och de uppfylldes av fruktan och sade: “Det vi har sett i dag är ofattbart.”

Mattheus 9:27 Då Jesus gick därifrån, följde två blinda efter honom och ropade: “Förbarma dig över oss, Davids son!” 28 Och när han kom hem, gick de fram till honom. Jesus frågade dem: “Tror ni att jag kan göra detta?” De svarade: “Ja, Herre.” 29 Då rörde han vid deras ögon och sade: “Som ni tror skall det ske med er.”

Joh. 4:47 När han hörde att Jesus hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen, gick han till honom och bad att han skulle komma ner och bota hans son som låg för döden. 48 Jesus sade till honom: “Om ni inte ser tecken och under, tror ni inte.”49 Mannen sade till honom: “Herre, kom ner innan mitt barn dör!” 50 Jesus svarade: “Gå, din son lever.” Då trodde mannen det ord som Jesus sade till honom och gick. 51 Och medan han ännu var på väg, möttes han av sina tjänare som sade att hans son levde.

Apg 14:8 I Lystra fanns det en man som från födelsen var lam i fötterna och aldrig hade kunnat gå. 9 Han hörde Paulus predika. Denne fäste ögonen på honom, och NÄR HAN SÅG ATT MANNEN HADE TRO SÅ ATT HAN KUNDE BLI BOTAD, 10 sade han med hög röst: “Res dig upp och stå på benen!” Då hoppade han upp och började gå omkring. 

Lukas 17:17 Jesus frågade honom: “Blev inte alla tio rena? Var är de nio?18 Har verkligen ingen vänt tillbaka för att prisa Gud utom den här främlingen?” 19 Och han sade till honom: “Stig upp och gå! Din tro har frälst dig.”

Mattheus 15:27 Hon sade: “Jo, Herre, också hundarna äter smulorna som faller från deras herrars bord.” 28 Då svarade Jesus henne: “Kvinna, din tro är stor. Det skall bli som du vill.” Och från det ögonblicket var hennes dotter botad.

Lukas 18:41 “Vad vill du att jag skall göra för dig?” Han svarade: “Herre, gör så att jag kan se.” 42 Jesus sade till honom: “Du får din syn. Din tro har frälst dig.” 43 Genast kunde han se, och han följde Jesus och prisade Gud. Och allt folket som såg det prisade Gud.

Några personer trodde att de kunde bli helade bara genom att vidrörda Jesus:

Lukas 6:17 Jesus gick ner tillsammans med dem och stannade på en slätt. Där var en stor skara lärjungar och mycket folk från hela Judeen och Jerusalem och från kuststräckan vid Tyrus och Sidon. 18 De hade kommit för att höra honom och bli botade från sina sjukdomar. Också de som plågades av orena andar blev botade. 19 Och allt folket ville röra vid honom, eftersom kraft gick ut från honom och botade alla.20 Jesus lyfte blicken, såg på sina lärjungar och sade: “Saliga är ni som är fattiga, er tillhör Guds rike.

Markus 5:27 Hon hade hört talas om Jesus, och nu kom hon bakifrån i folkmassan och rörde vid hans mantel. 28 Hon tänkte: “Om jag så bara rör vid hans kläder blir jag frisk.” 29 På en gång upphörde hennes blödningar, och hon kände i kroppen att hon var botad från sin plåga. 30 När Jesus märkte att det hade gått ut kraft från honom, vände han sig om i folkskaran och frågade: “Vem rörde vid mina kläder?” 31 Hans lärjungar sade till honom: “Du ser hur folket tränger sig inpå dig, och du frågar: Vem rörde vid mig?” 32 Han fortsatte att se sig omkring efter kvinnan som hade gjort detta. 33 Hon visste vad som hade skett med henne och kom förskräckt och darrande och föll ner för honom och talade om hela sanningen för honom. 34 Då sade han till henne: “Min dotter, din tro har frälst dig. Gå i frid och var frisk och fri från din plåga!”

Jesus var verkligen förvånad när han såg hur stor tro en viss hednisk officer hade:

Lukas 7:8 Jag är själv en man som står under andras befäl, och jag har soldater under mig. När jag säger till en: Gå, så går han, och till en annan: Kom, så kommer han, och till min tjänare: Gör det, så gör han det.” 9 När Jesus hörde detta förundrade han sig över honom och vände sig om och sade till folket som följde honom: “Jag säger er: Inte ens i Israel har jag funnit en så stark tro.”

Mattheus 8:8 Officeren svarade: “Herre, jag är inte värd att du går in under mitt tak, men säg bara ett ord, så blir min tjänare frisk. —” 13 Till officeren sade Jesus: “Gå, som du tror skall det ske dig.” Och i samma ögonblick blev hans tjänare frisk.

En del människor stänger igen sina ögon, öron och hjärtan vilket gör att de inte kan bli helade:

Mattheus 13:15 Ty detta folks hjärta är förstockat. De hör illa med sina öron, och de sluter sina ögon, så att de inte ser med ögonen eller hör med öronen eller förstår med hjärtat och vänder om, så att jag får bota dem.

Apg 28:26 när han sade:Gå till detta folk och säg: Även om ni hör, skall ni inte förstå, och även om ni ser,skall ni inte inse.27 Ty detta folks hjärta är förstockat. De hör illa med sina öron, och de sluter sina ögon, så att de inte ser med ögonen eller hör med öronen eller förstår med hjärtat och vänder om, så att jag får bota dem.

John 12:36 Tro på ljuset, medan ni har ljuset, så att ni blir ljusets barn.” När Jesus hade sagt detta drog han sig tillbaka och dolde sig för dem.37 Fastän han hade gjort så många tecken inför dem, trodde de inte på honom. 38 Så uppfylldes profeten Jesajas ord: Herre, vem trodde vad som predikades för oss, och för vem var Herrens arm uppenbarad?39 Alltså kunde de inte tro. Jesaja har också sagt: 40 Han har förblindat deras ögon och förstockat deras hjärtan, så att de inte ser med sina ögon och förstår med sina hjärtan och vänder om och blir botade av mig. 41 Detta sade Jesaja, därför att han såg hans härlighet och talade om honom.

I Jesus hemstad så lyckades han inte hela särskilt många, men det berodde på människors undermåliga tro. Om människor inte förmår tro att Jesus kan hela så kommer de heller inte till honom för att bli helade. Endast några få blev helade, och Jesus förundrades över de övrigas brist på tro:

Mark 6:4 Men Jesus sade till dem: “En profet föraktas alltid i sin hemstad, bland sina släktingar och i sin egen familj.”5 Och han kunde inte göra någon kraftgärning där. Bara några få sjuka botade han genom att lägga händerna på dem. 6 Och han förundrade sig över deras otro.

Luke 4:24 Och han fortsatte: “Amen säger jag er: Ingen profet blir erkänd i sin hemstad. 25 Jag säger er sanningen: Det fanns många änkor i Israel på Elias tid, då himlen var tillsluten i tre år och sex månader och det kom en stor hungersnöd över hela landet. 26 Ändå blev inte Elia sänd till någon av dem utan bara till en änka i Sarepta i Sidons land. 27 Och fastän det fanns många spetälska i Israel på profeten Elisas tid, blev ingen av dem renad utan endast Naaman från Syrien.”

Jesus lärljungar hade också helandets gåva

Jesus lärljungar hade makten att hela människor och driva ut orena andar. Det löftet gavs inte bara till dem utan till alla som blir frälsta och andedöpta. Precis som fallet var med Jesus så orsakade lärljungarna stort intresse för sitt budskap för att de varvade sitt budskap med mirakel och uppvisade gudfruktiga liv. Mirakel underlättar tron.

Om man använder sig av nedan verser för att ge stöd för evangelisation, men samtidigt väljer att ignorera ordalydelsen om makten att bota sjuka och driva ut orena andar, ja då har man inte läst verserna på ett konsekvent sätt utan ratat det man inte tycker om. Först kommer några verser som visar hur viktigt det är att ha blivit andedöpt så att man får den mirakulösa kraften från Gud att sprida evangelium på ett frimodigt och övertygande sätt direkt från hjärtat. Tungotal är en mycket vanlig fysisk yttring för andedop, men Petrus tar i Apg. 2 upp Joels profetia om både tungotal och profetior – som är uppräknade bland andegåvorna ihop med helande. Petrus menade att man både kunde se och höra att Anden blivit utgjuten.

Apg 1:4 Vid en måltid tillsammans med apostlarna befallde han dem: “Lämna inte Jerusalem utan VÄNTA på vad Fadern har utlovat, det som ni har hört av mig. 5 Ty Johannes döpte med vatten, men ni skall om några dagar bli döpta i den helige Ande.”— 8 Men när den helige Ande kommer över er, skall ni få kraft och bli mina vittnen i Jerusalem och i hela Judeen och Samarien och ända till jordens yttersta gräns.” 9 Då han hade sagt detta, såg de hur han lyftes upp, och ett moln tog honom ur deras åsyn.— Apg 2:2 När pingstdagen hade kommit var de alla samlade. — 4 Och de uppfylldes alla av den helige Ande och började tala främmande språk, allteftersom Anden ingav dem att tala.— 17 Och det skall ske i de sista dagarna, säger Gud:
Jag skall utgjuta av min Ande över allt kött. Era söner och era döttrar skall profetera, era unga män skall se syner, och era gamla män skall ha drömmar. 18 Ja, över mina tjänare och tjänarinnor skall jag i de dagarna utgjuta av min Ande, och de skall profetera.—33 Sedan han nu genom Guds högra hand har blivit upphöjd och av Fadern tagit emot den utlovade helige Ande, har han utgjutit detta som ni SER och HÖR.—38 Petrus svarade dem: “Omvänd er och låt er alla döpas i Jesu Kristi namn, så att era synder blir förlåtna. Då skall ni få den helige Ande som gåva. 39 Ty er gäller löftet och era barn och alla dem som är långt borta, så många som Herren vår Gud kallar.”

Trots att man kan läsa ovan att Petrus var andedöpt, och trots att vi vet att han talade i tungor och även hade helandets gåva, så kan vi läsa vid ett senare tillfälle “DÅ uppfylldes Petrus av den helige Ande”, varpå hade uttryckte sig på ett gudomligt sätt och med kraft inför rådsherrar och äldste”. Petrus var alltså andedöpt sedan tidigare, men en andedöpt kan ändå emellanåt få utökad andlig kraft att förmedla sitt gudomliga budskap på ett sätt som man kan se och höra.

Apg 4:7 De förde fram apostlarna och började förhöra dem: “Genom vilken kraft eller i vilket namn har ni gjort detta?” —8 Då uppfylldes Petrus av den helige Ande och svarade dem: “Ni folkets rådsherrar och äldste, —14 Och när de såg mannen som hade blivit botad stå där tillsammans med dem, blev de svarslösa. —16 De sade: “Vad skall vi göra med de här människorna? Att ett märkligt tecken har skett genom dem, det står klart för alla som bor i Jerusalem, och det kan vi inte förneka.—21 Då hotade de dem än en gång och lät dem sedan gå, eftersom de för folkets skull inte kunde finna något lämpligt sätt att straffa dem. Ty alla prisade Gud för det som hade hänt. 22 Mannen som hade blivit botad genom detta tecken var nämligen över fyrtio år.—29 Och nu, Herre, se hur de hotar oss, och hjälp dina tjänare att frimodigt predika ditt ord, 30 genom att du räcker ut din hand för att bota och låta tecken och under ske genom din helige tjänare Jesu namn.” 31 När de hade slutat att be, skakades platsen där de var samlade, och de uppfylldes alla av den helige Ande och predikade frimodigt Guds ord.

Andra exempel på lärljungarnas andegåvor:

Mattheus 10:1 Jesus kallade till sig sina tolv lärjungar och gav dem makt att driva ut orena andar och att bota alla slags sjukdomar och krämpor.

Lukas 9:1 Jesus kallade till sig de tolv och gav dem makt över alla onda andar och kraft att bota sjukdomar. 2 Och han sände ut dem att predika Guds rike och bota sjuka. — 6 De gick ut och vandrade från by till by och predikade överallt evangeliet och botade sjuka.

Apg 28:8 Publius far låg just då sjuk i hög feber och svår diarré. Paulus gick in till honom, bad och lade händerna på honom och botade honom. 9 Efter den händelsen kom också andra sjuka på ön till honom och blev botade.

Apg. 3:9 Allt folket såg honom gå omkring och prisa Gud. 10 Och de kände igen honom och såg att det var mannen som brukade sitta och tigga vid Sköna porten, och de fylldes av förskräckelse och förundran över det som hade hänt med honom.11 Då mannen höll sig till Petrus och Johannes, skyndade allt folket fram till dem i den pelarhall som kallas Salomos pelarhall. De var utom sig av häpnad. 12 När Petrus såg det sade han till folket: “Israeliter, varför är ni förvånade över det här, och varför stirrar ni på oss, som om vi av egen kraft eller fromhet hade gjort att han kan gå?— 16 Och genom tron på hans namn har det namnet gett styrka åt denne man, som ni ser och känner. Tron som det namnet skänker har gett honom full hälsa så som ni alla ser.

Apg 5:12 Många tecken och under skedde bland folket genom apostlarnas händer. Och de var alla tillsammans i Salomos pelarhall. 13 Av de andra vågade ingen sluta sig till dem, men folket uppskattade dem. 14 Och ännu fler kom till tro på Herren, en skara av både män och kvinnor.15 Ja, man bar till och med ut de sjuka på gatorna och lade dem på bäddar och bårar, för att åtminstone Petrus skugga skulle falla på någon av dem, när han gick förbi. 16 Det kom också en stor skara från städerna runt omkring Jerusalem, och de förde med sig sjuka och sådana som plågades av orena andar, och alla blev botade.

Bibeln säger ingenstans att det endast var lärljungarna som hade förmågan att ta emot Andens gåvor, trots att det funnits många lämpliga tillfällen att förklara motsatsen för läsare som inte vill något hellre än att vara lydiga Gud. Förmodligen finns ingen sådan information just för att andegåvorna är till för alla kristna människor. Behovet av andegåvorna existerade inte bara under lärljungarnas tid utan troende människor behöver fortfarande Guds kraft och kan fortfarande öka intresset och tron hos andra människor genom helande, andeutdrivning och tungotal. Inte bara de tolv lärljungarna + Paulus kunde hela människor och få en annan människa att uppfyllas av den helige Ande:

Apg. 9:10 I Damaskus fanns en lärjunge som hette Ananias. Till honom sade Herren i en syn: “Ananias!” Han svarade: “Här är jag, Herre.” 11 Herren sade till honom: “Bege dig till den gata som kallas Raka gatan och fråga i Judas hus efter en man som heter Saulus och är från Tarsus, ty se, han ber. 12 Och i en syn har han sett en man som heter Ananias komma in och lägga händerna på honom för att han skall se igen.”—17 Då gick Ananias, och när han kom in i huset lade han händerna på honom och sade: “Saul, min broder, Herren Jesus som visade sig för dig på vägen hit, han har sänt mig för att du skall kunna se igen och uppfyllas av den helige Ande.” 18 Genast var det som om fjäll föll från hans ögon, och han fick sin syn igen och blev döpt.

Vi är tillsagda att vara ivriga att få ta del av helandets gåva (och andra andegåvor) även idag

Satan vill väldigt gärna få oss att tro att dessa andegåvor inte längre är i bruk idag. Lyckas han med en sådan lögn så kan han nämligen avrusta kristna människor från stor makt och Satan får därmed större kapacitet att lura människor och få dem med på fall. Jag säger inte att människor utan andegåvor inte är frälsta, men de har gått miste om en stor gudomlig kraft som de annars skulle haft.

Många pastorer är helt tysta vad gäller dessa andegåvor och uppmuntrar inte människor att söka dem (som Paulus säger att vi bör). Därför förekommer inte heller profetior och helande i sådana församlingar vilket är en stor brist. Dessvärre finns det pastorer som tagit ännu ett steg i fel riktning – nämligen genom att mer eller mindre VARNA för tungotal, profetior, helande, och andra andegåvor. (Jag upplever att ett sådant tilltag faktiskt skulle kunna vara nära den oförlåtna synden, där man talar emot den helige Ande och öppet kallar något gudomligt för orent och sataniskt.) Varje gång som Satan lyckas få en predikant att övertyga sina åhörare att helande inte är något som de borde engagera sig i eftersom det är kontroversiellt eller demoniskt, så har Satan segrat eftersom färre människor då kommer att bli helade och färre människor intresserar sig för den levande Guden som kan göra under än idag.

1 Thess. 5: 19 Släck inte Anden. 20 Förakta inte profetior, 21 men pröva allt, behåll det goda

En del människor begär “bevis” (ofta från sekulära källor som de menar är neutrala) men vad slags bevis skulle kunna övertyga dem? Det finns sjukhusjournaler som helade människor fått ta del om som vittnar om att cancer helt oväntat och plötsligt helt försvunnit, men skulle tvivlare tro på att det handlar om ett Guds helande ens om en läkare skulle uttrycka “vilket mirakel!”?  Jag har inte dessa journaler i min ägo så jag kan tyvärr inte skicka dem till en tvivlare (och vårdpersonal har tystnadsplikt), så hur menar tvivlarna att man ska kunna bevisa något när de själva är synnerligen ovilliga att gå till botten med ett vittnesmål om helande och undersöka saken lite närmare? Det är de som blivit helade som har bevisbördan? Men vilken slags “börda” känner de egentligen? De har blivit helade och är hur nöjda som helst efter år av sjukdom, så varför skulle deras glädje grumlas av att det finns människor i landet som inte tror på att de blivit helade? Andra människor får tvivla hur mycket de vill. Om man dessutom vet att det inte finns någonting som kan övertyga dessa tvivlare (sjukhusjournaler, vittnesmål, etc) så är det heller ingen idé att ödsla tid på det utan snarare prisa Gud för att varje person som blir helad.

Jag har hört många människor yttra t ex “Jag har varit kristen i 30 år och aldrig har jag påträffat någon som blivit helad”. Det är bara att beklaga att ingen under denna tid knackat på de personernas dörrar och visat upp sitt helande. (Skulle de tro på ett sådant helande i så fall?) Jag kan också beklaga att de kanske är medlemmar i en församling där helande inte utövas. Det är ganska givet att de inte lyckats få kontakt med någon person som blivit helad i sådana fall, och speciellt inte om pastorer “hjälper till” att varna för helande och predika att det endast skedde under apostlarnas tid. Vi har ju sett i verserna ovan att TRO har en stor del med helande att göra, så om pastorer predikar att vi INTE ska tro att helande är möjligt idag (utan faktiskt något som vi ska undvika) så hjälper ett sådant förfarande till att reducera Andens kraft i våra kyrkor.

Sen finns det människor som försöker med ”guilt by association”, där de drar upp exempel på TV-predikanter (framgångspredikanter) som missbrukar den helige Ande genom att blanda ihop helande med att tigga pengar och där de lever lyxliv med stora hus, fina bilar och privatplan. Men missbruk av andegåvorna betyder förstås inte att alla andegåvor är falska. Så var det inte under Paulus tid, och så är det heller inte idag. Det faktum att det finns falska pengar är inget bevis för att alla pengar är falska.

Det verkar som det är lättare att ta till sig Guds helandeunder i fattigare länder än i rika. En bekant berättade om några mötesserier i Afrika där hon uttryckte att “det verkade som det var fler människor som blev helande än som inte blev helade”. Det är svårare att tänka sig ett liknande resultat i västvärlden. Men Guds löften gäller fortfarande idag, och tack vare kraften från den helige Ande så kan vi göra liknande gärningar som Jesus och hans apostlar. Vi är t o m lovade att vi ska kunna göra ännu större kraftgärningar. Skälet att vi inte ser så många döda återfå livet är förmodligen brist på tro.

Joh. 14:11 Tro mig: jag är i Fadern och Fadern är i mig. Om ni inte kan tro det, så tro för gärningarnas skull.12 Amen, amen säger jag er: Den som tror på mig skall utföra de gärningar som jag gör, och större än dessa skall han göra, ty jag går till Fadern. 13 Och vad ni än ber om i mitt namn, skall jag göra, för att Fadern skall bli förhärligad i Sonen. 14 Om ni ber om något i mitt namn, skall jag göra det.

Markus 16:14 Sedan visade han sig för de elva när de låg till bords, och han förebrådde dem deras otro och hårda hjärtan, då de inte hade trott på dem som hade sett honom uppstånden. 15 Och han sade till dem: “Gå ut i hela världen och predika evangelium för hela skapelsen. 16 Den som tror och blir döpt skall bli frälst, men den som inte tror skall bli fördömd. 17 Tecken skall följa dem som tror detta. I mitt namn skall de driva ut onda andar. De skall tala med nya tungor. 18 De skall ta ormar i händerna, och om de dricker något dödligt gift skall det inte skada dem. De skall lägga händerna på sjuka, och de skall bli friska.“19 Sedan Herren Jesus hade talat till dem, blev han upptagen till himlen och satte sig på Guds högra sida. 20 Och de gick ut och predikade överallt, och Herren verkade tillsammans med dem och bekräftade ordet genom de tecken som åtföljde det.

1 Kor. 13:2 Och om jag ägde profetisk gåva och kände alla hemligheter och hade all kunskap, och om jag hade all tro så att jag kunde flytta berg men inte hade kärlek, så vore jag ingenting.

Paulus ger instruktioner för hur en kyrka (en kristen gemenskap) borde fungera, och helande är en del av funktionerna. Vi ombeds att vara ivriga att få de bästa gåvorna, och helandets gåva är nämnt på femte plats.

1 Kor. 12:4 Det finns olika slags nådegåvor, men Anden är densamme. 5 Det finns olika slags tjänster, men Herren är densamme. — 9 En får tro genom samme Ande, en får gåvor att bota sjuka genom samme Ande, 10 en annan att utföra kraftgärningar. En får gåvan att profetera, en annan att skilja mellan andar. En får gåvan att tala olika slags tungomål, en annan att uttyda tungomål. 11 Men allt detta verkar en och samme Ande, som efter sin vilja fördelar sina gåvor åt var och en.12 Ty liksom kroppen är en och har många lemmar, men kroppens alla lemmar – och de är många – utgör en kropp, så är det också med Kristus.— 28 Gud har i sin församling för det första satt några till apostlar, för det andra några till profeter, för det tredje några till lärare, vidare andra till att utföra kraftgärningar, andra till att få gåvor att bota sjuka, till att hjälpa, att styra och att tala olika slags tungomål. 29 Inte är väl alla apostlar? Inte är väl alla profeter? Inte är väl alla lärare? Inte utför väl alla kraftgärningar? 30 Inte har väl alla gåvor att bota sjuka? Inte talar väl alla tungomål? Inte kan väl alla uttyda? 31 Men sträva efter de nådegåvor som är störst.

Även Jakob förklarar hur en kristen gemenskap borde fungera:

Jak. 5:13 Får någon av er lida, skall han be. Är någon glad, skall han sjunga lovsånger. 14 Är någon bland er sjuk, skall han kalla på församlingens äldste, och de skall be över honom och i Herrens namn smörja honom med olja. 15 Trons bön skall bota den sjuke, och Herren skall resa upp honom. Och har han begått synder, skall han få förlåtelse för dem. 16 Bekänn alltså era synder för varandra och be för varandra så att ni blir botade. Mycket mäktig och verksam är en rättfärdig människas bön.

Water, ice, steam, fog, dew – several forms of the same essence

The godhead (God) which is ONE contains three persons (God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit), but Jesus Christ has expressed himself through two natures – a divine nature and a human nature. While Christ’s body was dead, he remained alive since God cannot die. The Bible does not say that God the Father alone raised Jesus from the dead, but rather that each one of God the Father, Jesus the son and the Holy Spirit rose Jesus up from the dead. Either God is a God of confusion, or the trinity is true.

God is able to be in a burning bush (or in the shape of a pillar of fire, or a pillar of cloud) at the same time as he remains in heaven and at the same time as he is elsewhere viewing and sometimes even participating in people’s actions. In such cases we would not be talking about several Yahwehs being all over the place, but we would rather suggest it’s the same Yahweh being in multiple places at the same time. Three piles of sand can easily become one pile of sand.

JESUS gave up his own life and raised himself up from the dead

John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?21 But he spake of the temple of his body.22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

The Holy Spirit raised Jesus up from the dead

God raised Jesus up from the dead

God quickens ALL THINGS, and yet we read that the son also quickens

Do you honor God the Father as the supreme being, Mighty God, the Creator of the world, the Lord of Lords, the only one to worship, the beginning and the end, etc? You are requested to honor the son in the same way according to John 5:23. The Jews wanted to kill Jesus for a reason, and that reason is that he made himself equal to God.

John 5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, MAKING HIMSELF EQUAL WITH GOD.19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so THE SON QUICKENETH whom he will.22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Notice above how the son quickens whom he wills, just like his Father quickens whom he wills. If it’s God who quickens whom he wills in both cases (both when it comes to himself and his son), then it wouldn’t make any sense to even mention that the son quickens whom he wills if it’s really God the Father who alone has this power and authority. Also the Holy Spirit is able to quicken dead souls. If God really quickens ALL THINGS as the verse below claims, then there shouldn’t be any mentioning of anyone else doing any quickening when it comes to bringing someone (back) to life, UNLESS of course God is a trinity. The trinity alone can get rid of Bible contradictions in relation to God.

1 Tim. 6:13 I give thee charge in the sight of GOD, who quickeneth ALL THINGS, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

Rom. 8:11 But if the SPIRIT of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies BY HIS SPIRIT that dwelleth in you.

1 Pet. 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by THE SPIRIT.

Rom. 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

1 Cor. 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Jesus (Gud i kött) är LAMMET som slaktats

Apg 8:32 Skriftstället som han läste var detta: Liksom ett får som förs bort till att slaktas,och liksom ett lamm som är tyst inför den som klipper det, öppnade han inte sin mun.33 Genom hans förnedring blev hans dom borttagen.Vem kan räkna hans släkte? Ty hans liv togs bort från jorden.

Ovan är ett citat från det Gamla Testamentet, som den etiopiske hovmannen läste när han träffade Filippus på vägen från Jerusalem. Jesus är här jämförd med ett oskyldigt lamm som slaktas för att göra oss rättfärdiga.

Jes. 53:1 Men vem trodde, vad som predikades för oss, och för vem var HERRENS arm uppenbar?2 Han sköt upp såsom en ringa telning inför honom, såsom ett rotskott ur förtorkad jord. Han hade ingen gestalt eller fägring; när vi sågo på honom, kunde hans utseende ej behaga oss.3 Föraktat var han och övergiven av människor, en smärtornas man och förtrogen med krankhet; han var såsom en, för vilken man skyler sitt ansikte, så föraktat, att vi höllo honom för intet.4 Men det var våra krankheter han bar, våra smärtor, dem lade han på sig, medan vi höllo honom för att vara hemsökt, tuktad av Gud och pinad.5 Ja, han var sargad för våra överträdelsers skull och slagen för våra missgärningars skull; näpsten var lagd på honom, för att vi skulle få frid, och genom hans sår bliva vi helade.6 Vi gingo alla vilse såsom får, var och en av oss ville vandra sin egen väg, men HERREN lät allas vår missgärning drabba honom.7 Han blev plågad, fastän han ödmjukade sig och icke öppnade sin mun, lik ett lamm, som föres bort att slaktas, och lik ett får, som är tyst inför dem som klippa det ja, han öppnade icke sin mun.8 Undan våld och dom blev han borttagen, men vem i hans släkte betänker detta? Ja, han rycktes bort ifrån de levandes land, och för mitt folks överträdelses skull kom plåga över honom.9 Och bland de ogudaktiga fick hans in grav bland de rika kom han först, när han var död fastän han ingen orätt hade gjort och fastän svek icke fanns i hans mun.10 Det behagade HERREN att slå honom med krankhet: om hans liv så bleve ett skuldoffer, då skulle han få se avkomlingar och länge leva, och HERRENS vilja skulle genom honom hava framgång.11 Ja, av den vedermöda hans själ har utstått skall han se frukt och så bliva mättad; genom sin kunskap skall han göra många rättfärdiga, han, den rättfärdige, min tjänare, i det han bär deras missgärningar.12 Därför skall jag tillskifta honom hans lott bland de många, och med talrika skaror skall han få utskifta byte, eftersom han utgav sitt liv i döden och blev räknad bland överträdare, han som bar mångas synder och bad för överträdarna. Upp .5:6 Och jag såg mitt för tronen och mitt ibland de fyra väsendena och de äldste ett Lamm stå där, som såg ut att ha blivit slaktat. Det hade sju horn och sju ögon – de sju ögonen är Guds sju andar, utsända över hela jorden.—8 Och när det tog bokrullen, föll de fyra väsendena och de tjugofyra äldste ner inför Lammet. De hade var och en sin harpa och skålar av guld, fulla av rökelse, som är de heligas böner.—12 Och de sade med hög röst: “Lammet, som blev slaktat, är värdigt att ta emot makten, rikedomen och visheten, kraften och äran, härligheten och tacksägelsen.”

Upp. 6:16 och de sade till bergen och klipporna: “Fall över oss och göm oss för hans ansikte som sitter på tronen och för Lammets vrede.

Upp. 13:8 Alla jordens invånare kommer att tillbe det, alla som inte har sitt namn skrivet i livets bok som tillhör Lammet som är slaktat från världens grundläggning.

Ordet “från” här ovan är översatt från den grekiska prepositionen apo (Strong’s 575) och kan förutom från också betyda av, ut från, vid, på, i, för, allt sedan, etc. Prepositionen i versen kan hjälpa till att uttrycka en förfluten tid eller “origin of cause”. Redan i Eden kunde Adam och Eva höra Gud tala om krocken mellan djävulens avkomma och kvinnans avkomma samt “Han ska krossa ditt huvud” (1 Mos. 3:15. Vad som skulle komma att ske i framtiden fanns alltså som koncept redan från begynnelsen.

Även Luk. 11:50 används samma ord när vi läser om profeters blod som utgjutits FRÅN världens begynnelse. Få tolkar detta som om dessa profeter dog och blödde vid en tidpunkt innan eller vid världens begynnelse, och inte heller att det skedde enbart vid en och samma tidpunkt. Vi läser detta snarare som att detta skett allt sedan världens begynnelse och en tid framåt.

Lukas 11:50 Så skall av detta släkte utkrävas alla profeters blod, som har utgjutits FRÅN världens begynnelse,

Samma ord används i Upp. 17:8, där vi kan läsa om namn skrivna i livet bok. Här är det inte nödvändigt att se det som att det var namnen som var skrivna i boken från världens grundläggning – och att namnen dessutom skrevs in vid ett och samma tillfälle – utan det kan vara BOKEN som kommit till från världens grundläggning varpå namn börjades skriva in i den allt sedan Adams tid (från begynnelsen). Vi vet att namn även kan raderas från boken enligt samma kapitel. Man skulle också kunna anta att Gud själv kände till den slutgiltiga versionen av livets bok redan från begynnelsen (även om det inte går att bevisa). Självfallet kände Gud dock till att det fanns en livets bok, eftersom det är han själv som bestämt att det ska finnas en livets bok som grund till vår frälsningsplan och slutgiltiga dom.

Upp. 17:8 Vilddjuret som du såg, det var och är inte mer. Det skall stiga upp ur avgrunden och går sedan i fördärvet. De invånare på jorden som inte har sina namn skrivna i livets bok FRÅN världens grundläggning, de skall förundras när de ser vilddjuret, eftersom det var och inte är men skall komma.

Upp. 3:5 Den som segrar skall alltså bli klädd i vita kläder, och jag skall aldrig stryka ut hans namn ur livets bok utan kännas vid hans namn inför min Fader och hans änglar.

Upp. 22:19 Och om någon tar bort något från de ord som står i denna profetias bok, skall Gud ta ifrån honom hans del i livets träd och i den heliga staden, som det står skrivet om i denna bok.

Sen finns det ett grekiskt ord som verkligen betyder “innan” (πρό) men som inte används i Upp. 13:8.

“Det är fullbordat” – betyder inte att vi blivit frälsta innan vi kom till tro

Vi blev inte frälsta innan vi ens var födda och innan vi började tro på Jesus. Det är genom tro vi blir frälsta enligt Bibeln, och inte genom att bli utvalda av Gud eller att ha fått vår skuld betald, för då hade vi aldrig någonsin varit separerade från honom vid någon enda tidpunkt. Vi hade varit förlåtna innan vi ens utförde våra synder, och omvändelse vore totalt meningslöst eftersom vi vore födda frälsta. Eller kan vi säga att vi blivit frälsta av Jesu kompletta verk på korset innan vi börjat tro och innan vi blivit pånyttfödda och fått den helige Ande? Om Jesus betalat för våra synder (alltså inte bara att han betalade ett högt pris – döden – för oss, utan även att han betalade för våra SYNDER), så hade vi varit frälsta innan vi kom till tro. Betalt är betalt. Då borde vi inte predika att människor måste tro på Gud för att bli frälsta, eftersom de ju redan är frälsta, friköpta (“redeemed” på engelska) och klara. Har man fått sina synder betalda så kan man inte senare gå förlorade. Vi bör inte tänka på Jesu offer som en slags pengatransaktion/betalning, utan som ett perfekt SYNDOFFER. Frälsningen är villkorad.

Det går inte att utesluta att ett verkligt lamm (eller ett annat slags gudomligt lamm) verkligen fick offras för att åstadkomma kläder till Adam och Eva och på så sätt “täcka deras synd”. Detta skedde dock efter deras synd, men fortfarande i tidernas begynnelse. Det är därför naturligt att vi kristna drar en parallell till Jesu offer på Golgata som också det gjordes för alla människors synder – precis som lammet i Eden då bara Adam och Eva levde.

Jesu dog som ett oskyldigt lamm och han har alltid haft helandeförmåga sedan tidernas begynnelse. Upp. 13:8 handlar om att alla människor en gång i framtiden ska tillbe lammet, och det lammet (Jesus) fanns på riktigt från världens grundläggning. Eftersom Gud självfallet visste att det inte var uteslutet för Adam och Eva att synda så måste lösningen på det tänkbara problemet redan vara planerad innan det ens inträffade. Därav lammet och därav konceptet från världens grund om Jesu offerdör för hela mänskligheten. Lammet räddade Adam och Eva och fortsätter att rädda. En gång ska alla tillbe det.

A branch can start out in the vine (Jesus) and still be cut off at a later stage due to lack of fruit

“Fruit” is often used as another term for “works” – as in showing our faith by doing good deeds towards others. We are not saved by either faith alone or works alone, but the two must go together. The following are some things we learn from John 15:

  • Branches that bear at least some fruit (which is a sign of life) will be pruned, but if branches bear no fruit at all they will be removed and thrown into the fire
  • The branches that were cut off were so because they did not abide by bearing fruit, and they will WITHER which shows they used to be alive and fresh.
  • Jesus declared his disciples “clean” and yet they (along with all of us) were warned to not be cut off the vine due to lack of fruit.
  • Being thrown in the fire is a common term for being thrown into hell, and this happens when people transgress God’s commandments and refuse to repent.
  • We are fervently urged to ABIDE. We are not simply told that we absolutely WILL abide because it’s not possible to lose our salvation. It’s the other way around since we are told to stick with Jesus, or else terrible things will follow.
  • There are many IF:s in the chapter. “IF a man abide not in me…”, “IF ye abide in me….”, “IF ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love….” “IF ye do whatsoever I command you, you are my friends”, etc. Why all these IF:s if we are eternally secure once we are in Jesus?
  • God is GLORIFIED when we bear fruit, so his desire is that we bear fruit so that he can be more glorified. That means that it’s something negative if a branch that used to be in him must be cut off due to being useless.
  • Bearing fruit is a condition for being a disciple of Jesus.
  • We are told to CONTINUE in his love. We are not told that it’s a certainty that we will.
  • We are told that we are friends of Jesus IF we obey his commandments.
  • Jesus gives us a commandment to love one another, just like Jesus has loved us. This shows us that we can heed to this commandment.
  • Jesus also tells us that he has kept his Father’s commandment and therefore he abides in his love, and we are asked to do the very same (obey the commandments so that we can abide in Jesus love).
  • Jesus had even ordained his disciples to bear much fruit, but this naturally doesn’t mean that they had no ability to disobey. Judas (a chosen disciple) had departed earlier, but from history we learn that the other eleven remained with Jesus and showed much good fruit throughout their lives.
  • Certain people “had not had sin” if it weren’t for the fact that they rejected Jesus despite that he had come and spoken to them and shown them amazing works of God that no other man has done. Their refusal to accept Jesus made them guilty as sinners, despite that they were very religious Jews eager to obey the law of Moses.

John 15:1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.10; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.17 These things I command you, that ye love one another. —.22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.—24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

While the above chapter shows that we can be cut off from the vine due to lack of fruit, the following chapter shows that we as branches can be cut off from the olive tree due to lack of faith (unbelief).

  • The good olive tree with its roots is a picture of the Jews to whom the gospel was first provided. We are also told about another olive tree (wild by nature) which is a picture of the gentiles. Some of the branches in the good olive tree were broken off when Jews rejected Jesus as the Messiah, and the gentiles could be grafted in – provided they had faith.
  • Paul tells us not to boast about our place in the olive tree, but he also says “IF you boast...” showing that we might choose to be disobedient to God against his will.
  • We are told that we stand in the olive tree by FAITH, so this is a condition for salvation (both for the Jew and the gentile).
  • We are told to not be high-minded , but Paul wants us to live in “fear” (in another letter he says: “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”) since God has shown that he doesn’t necessarily spare the branches if they don’t cooperate by having faith.
  • We are told to TAKE HEED, which would be a useless warning unless there were a real risk that we could lose our place in the olive tree. We are specifically told that we might not be spared due to unbelief.
  • We are told to keep those who tragically fell in mind, because we too might be cut off if we don’t continue in his kindness.
  • Jews (or anyone) can be grafted in AGAIN (meaning we can go from being in the tree, to not being in the tree, to being in the tree again). The condition is FAITH and that we continue to abide.

Rom. 11:16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, BUT FEAR:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, TAKE HEED LEST HE ALSO SPARE NOT THEE.22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, IF THOU CONTINUE IN HIS GOODNESS: OTHERWISE THOU ALSO SHALT BE CUT OFF.23 And they also, IF THEY ABIDE NOT STILL IN UNBELIEF, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

In the below parable we can read about a vineyard who belongs to the “well-beloved”, and we are told he is the same as “The Lord of hosts”. He worked hard to produce good grapes, but contrary to his expectations WILD grapes were brought forth. What else could he have done to his vineyard apart from what he has already done? Nothing, and yet things didn’t turn out the way he wanted. The Lord of hosts then proceeded to lay his vineyard to waste.

Isaiah 5:1 Now let me sing to my Well-beloved A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard: My Well-beloved has a vineyard On a very fruitful hill. 2 He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He EXPECTED IT TO BRING FORTH GOOD GRAPES, BUT IT BROUGHT FORTH WILD GRAPES .3 “And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard.4 What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? WHY THEN, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes?5 And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.6 I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it.”7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help. (NKJV)

“I had planted you a noble vine, a seed of highest quality. How then have you turned before Me Into the degenerate plant of an alien vine?” (NKJV) is the question asked in Jeremiah 2:21. God planted one thing and expected a certain result (a noble vine), and yet he received a totally different result (an alien vine). Things don’t always end up as God desires, and that is due to our free will that he created us with.

Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God.

Jeremiah 8:12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.13 I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

The Lord of hosts planted a tree and called it “a green olive tree, fair and of goodly fruit”. Yet, he ended up destroying it and branches were broken off. It’s a picture of God’s holy people ending up rebelling against him and provoking him to anger due to their evil deeds.

Jeremiah 11:15 What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.16 The Lord called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.17 For the Lord of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.

Every man is judged based on his fruit. It’s wise to win souls:

Jeremiah 17:10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

We have not truly repented if we bring forth bad fruit. John the Baptist refused to baptize Jews who were still stuck in their corruption and sins. Every tree which doesn’t bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Even evil people can give good gifts to their children, but this doesn’t mean they are saved. It does mean that we can all do good. (Seeking God and repenting are two examples of good things that an unsaved person might choose to do.) We are told to enter the narrow gate, meaning the choice is ours. We are told to beware of false prophets, which shows that there is a risk that believers might be deceived. It also shows that people are NOT forced into being “non-elect” or “elect”, because for the non-elect a warning to beware of false prophets would fall into deaf ears, and the elect don’t even need to be warned because they can’t even lose their salvation. False prophets might be dressed in sheep’s clothing but we are still able to know them by their fruit. Are they for instance willing to be corrected by the Bible? Do they often lose their self-control and resort to name callings? Do they subtly encourage people to sin by declaring that we can safely serve two masters and still be saved? Do they show good deeds in their lives? We decide what kinds of trees we want to become, but we are also likened with branches (see above) that can be cut off.

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Doing wonderful works in God’s name (prophesying, casting out demons, etc) is of course not a sin, but if you add iniquity into the picture you’re a sinner and therefore lost. Naturally everyone can get his/her soul restored by repenting! In the story below, Jesus had never known the people spoken about – probably because they had always been workers of iniquity and lawless.

“Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and DOETH them…” shows that not everyone is doing the will of God – but if he is doing the will of God, then that person is wise and is likened to having built his house on a rock. Notice that it’s not God who builds the house on the rock for him, but he does so himself and that is the reason he is considered to be wise – by obeying his Lord, which sadly not all choose to do.

Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work INIQUITY.24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and DOETH them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

We certainly can’t blame God for placing evil thoughts into our hearts, because then he would be blamed for our iniquities. On judgment day we are to give account for every unnecessary word that we have said, showing that it’s our own responsibility to master our own tongues. We choose if we want to be a good person or an evil person.

Matthew 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”Luke 6:46. Why indeed? We certainly don’t have to disobey God, but if we do it’s our own choice and nothing that we can blame on God.

Luke 6:43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Some people bless God with the same mouth as they curse others – for instance their brothers and sisters. James says to this brothers (indicating it also concerns believers) that it should not have to be in that way.

James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, THESE THINGS OUGHT NOT SO TO BE.11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Jesus always hopes for that we will bear fruit, and he doesn’t give up until one final day when it’s too late. Then the fig tree will finally be cut down for good:

Luke 13:6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:9 And if it bear fruit, well: and IF NOT, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Paul said that he counted old “things” loss for Christ, and rubbish or dung – Phil. 3:7-8

What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ – for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as RUBBISH / Phil. 3:7-8, KJV

In order to understand which “things” he was talking about, we must of course read the context. The subject of this chapter concerns the issue of Jewish circumcision which is an example of a ceremonial law within the Law of Moses. The Bible tells us that the Law of Moses started with the time of Moses and it lasted until the time of Jesus (Gal. 3:19). Before and after this period man on earth was certainly not supposed to be lawless, and even today we are expected to live according to the Spirit instead of the flesh. Paul tells us in Romans 6 and 8 that if we live according to the flesh we will die and if we live according to the Spirit we will live. That is a condition for salvation – that we must make sure to abide in Christ.

In Phil. 3 Paul is giving serious instructions to the Philippians. He also explains that those who are the “circumcision” (being circumcised in heart) are those who worship God in the Spirit. (I’ve chosen NKJV here in order to use a more simple language.):

2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, (NKJV)

Paul further explains that he himself has a background as a Jew under the law, and he thoroughly believed in the idea of circumcision in order to be obedient to the Law of Moses. He is talking about the circumcision which is in the flesh, rather than in the heart. When it comes to the law of Moses, Paul considered himself blameless – as in doing everything to keep all the multiple regulations down to the smallest detail and MORE.

4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

However, Jesus explained that the problem with the pharisees was that they were hypocrites and that they did NOT have a clean INSIDE despite their zeal to be obedient to their scriptures. In fact, they lived in lawlessness because they had unclean hearts! We are not under the law if we are led by the Spirit:

Matt. 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. (KJV)

Matt. 23:3 Therefore whatever they tell you to observe that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.—13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.—  —25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.26 Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Gal. 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Paul compares the status he had as a pharisee under the law of Moses, and which often included works “to be seen by men”, with the new life in Christ which is not about being seen by men at all but about having a pure heart and by loving our neighbor as yourself. (We are not able to have a pure heart if we still sin. ) Paul gave up his own esteemed life (in the eyes of men) in order to be a servant of Christ, and that means that he also gave up earthly power and instead became an often despised christian. He thought his new life as a christian was well worth it, and he compared his old life – as a highly regarded pharisee – as nothing but dung. “Loss of all things” could also include other worldly things, which amount to nothing in comparison with the pearl he found in Jesus:

7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

Naturally it was not the Law of Moses that was considered rubbish because God wouldn’t make any bad laws for us during any time. Being obedient to God is never considered rubbish! As a pharisee, Paul didn’t realize that the Law of Moses would pass away, to be replaced with an era where the Holy Spirit is our ruler and Jesus Christ the King. Paul discovered that the new life in Christ was not about obeying the ceremonial Jewish laws any more (as before) but about having faith in Jesus! The righteousness which is from God includes the possibility to be cleansed from our sins in the blood of Jesus who died for our sins, and that happens upon our repentance and our FAITH in Jesus Christ. Repentance means that we confess our sins and make a decision to be servants of Jesus, leading to our new birth. Paul is clear that we are not able to serve two masters and still be saved. The Law of Moses is in our past, but this doesn’t mean that we have no laws to follow. It’s still a sin to murder, steal, commit adultery and lie. It’s still a sin to deny Jesus, to refuse to forgive a brother and to take the mark of the beast. We still risk the wrath of God if we combine obedience with disobedience and refuse to repent. :

 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

The subject concerns the resurrection from the death, and that is what Paul has in mind when he says that he is not already “perfected”. Not even Jesus Christ was “perfected” until after his glorification. We are able to live morally perfect here on earth, but the truth is of course that we have often chosen to be disobedient to God. Paul presses forward in holiness to reach the prize.

11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected (“perfect”, KJV); but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Paul refers to “us, as many as are perfect”, and he encourages the Philippians to walk by the same rule and being of the same mind.

15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature (“perfect”, KJV), have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Paul also said:

Phil 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain

and Paul made it very clear to the Galatians that it was nothing but wrong to suggest that circumcision (or other ceremonial laws) is a requirement for salvation. Paul was certainly not angry at the Galatians because they continued to teach the importance of avoiding murder, adultery, theft and lies, but about reverting back to the Law of Moses with the ceremonial laws. Being obedient to God by treating our neighbors as we would like to be treated ourselves, is not a sin and nothing to be mad about. If the Galatians were under the impression that circumcision still applied, then also the rest of the 613 still applied. If that is the case, Jesus Christ died in vain. We are saved by faith and not by the Law of Moses. The Law of Moses was to apply until the seed would come which is Jesus, but this doesn’t mean that we have no sets of laws to follow today. We are expected to live according to the Spirit, and if we believe in Jesus Christ, we love him and obey him.

Gal. 3:1  O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.—7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.— 19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
