My son Daniel has a new son and two beautiful daughters and a wonderful wife Chrissy! But what would you think of Daniel if he were to say to Abby, his 4 year old, ”Sweetie, after church today I want you to go upstairs and climb out on the roof of the church. Instead of you riding home with your mom and me and your brother and sister, I want you to fly home. Now if you do not obey me, I will punish you severely!”
Then of course, since Abby is an obedient daughter, after church she climbs out and up to the very peak of the roof. Since her family lives close to the church she can see her home from up there. Then she looks down and sees how high she is and is scared. But since her daddy commanded her to fly home she moves to the very edge of the roof. She flaps her arms a few times practicing to fly and then she steps off the roof. She falls straight to the ground breaking her arm and is crying in great pain! Her father, who witnessed the entire event, runs to his daughter and stands over her and says, ”Abby, you disobeyed me! Didn’t you? You didn’t fly home! You are in big trouble!”
What would you think of my son Daniel and how he treats his children? I doubt you would have anything good to say about his actions and you certainly would not think him a good father! But this is EXACTLY what we say about our heavenly Father, ”He is NOT a good father” when we say that He makes laws that we cannot keep. Many preachers and churches tell you that God has given you laws that are impossible to obey but if you don’t keep them then you are going to be punished with eternal misery! That makes God out to be a tyrant! This belief is an indictment against the nature and character of the Creator of the universe.
This is NOT TRUE as the Bible tells us that God’s laws are good and that the Lawgiver is good, holy and righteous!
I urge to think thru the beliefs you have been taught and those you teach others… Think them thru to their logical conclusion and if they in any way attack, impugn, or malign the character of God then how can they be right and godly? They cannot! Thoughts have consequences and your thoughts and concepts of God can affect you and your family for an eternity. Honor God, do not dishonor Him.
Ever wonder why most churches are the mess they are? Here is one reason…
The Westminster Catechism says, “No man is able, either of himself, or by any grace received in this life, perfectly to keep the commandments of God; but does daily break them in word, thought, and deed.”
This explains why most church members don’t love God… At least not by His standards. It’s because they’ve been taught they can’t… Even though Jesus said, ”If you love Me keep My commandments.”
